| Hey all! Please keep my nephew, Jonathon, in your prayers. Jonathon is the adopted son of my brother, Richard, who lives in Michigan. After my brother and his wife, Jennifer, got married, he adopted her son. He's had some problems for awhile so hopefully this will open his eyes. Please pray for his recovery. Thanks.
Jonathon, who just turned 16 but has no license/learner's permit/insurance, took our van for a joy ride this morning at around 1 a.m. The roads are snowy and icy, and we had snow today. He was drivng up to 80 mph and got into an accident and rolled the van. possible concussion, chest pains, various cuts. He's getting a CAT scan. Currently he's at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt. it's a miracle that he's alive.
Jenn says the michigan state police will be talking to him and it's very likely that Jon, who had seemed so responsible as we were letting him drive in the driveway, won't be getting his license until he turns 18. if then.
Jenn also tells me this isn't the first time he's done this. Well, I hope he sees now that there's a reason that Dad doesn't go hotrodding and why Dad likes to obey the speed limit. Once he recovers, we'll have a talk with him. I know Jon is upset about some things and being a teenager, but to me there is zero justification for this. It really disappoints me that he thinks I, a cautious driver, am uncool while his uncle who has had countless speeding tickets is cool. I tried explaining to him once that the safer a driver you are, the lower insurance rates you pay. I guess sometimes it has to be learned the hard way...
Update: 8 broken ribs (in the back), severely bruised lungs. He's received three citations: wreckless driving, driving without a seatbelt and driving without a license. State police and doctors say he's lucky to be alive. He may have to wait until he's 21 before getting a license. "I would fight for you - I'd lie for you - walk the wire for you - ya I'd die for you..." | |

| Jonathon is in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine how scary this is for them. I hope he recovers quickly. I'm so glad it wasn't any worse. | |

| I'll keep Jonathon and his family in my prayers, Misti. Sometimes a thing like this can actually work out for the best in the long run. My nephew Wes went through a period in his mid-teens when he was just... aimless. Although an academically gifted kid, he stopped caring about school, and his grades suffered. He and his friends were hitting the beer harder than they should have. Then Wes got busted for drunk driving. Thank God nobody was hurt. This was in North Dakota, and they don't screw around out there - he got a $700 fine and lost his license for two years. Luckily he was smart enough that he tried to make some good come out of it. He took a hard look at his life and realized he was going nowhere. And boy, did he turn things around! He's in his second year of college now. He made the Dean's List last year, and expects to get all A's this semester. He's turned from a moody, sullen teenager into a young man who's very excited about his life. And he's an almost fanatical anti-drinker ("Er, Mom, do you really need that glass of wine with dinner?" ) So sometimes a dark episode in a kid's life can serve as a gateway to better things. I really hope it'll work out the same way with Jonathon. We'll all hope and pray for the best. | |

| I'll add Jonathon to my prayers, too. Sometimes, like Rob said, something like that happening can really be a wake-up call. I'm glad that he survived the accident. Now, hopefully, it can lead to some positive changes in his life. | |

| I always get here after the other members, so I'm late to answer your request of prayers, Misti. Jonathon will be in my prayers for sure. As Rob saids, it's pretty common that teens behaves in such away. Sometimes it last, sometimes it's a short amount of time they have such a way of acting. In all cases, don't lost your faith. I'm sure your nephew will be allright. He got a good education and things will turn well for him. Don't worry. I will pray for him. Vanesa. | |

| Wow...that is so scary. He sounds very lucky to be alive. My 20 year old nephew was in a motorcycle accident recently (yes it's winter, but, ahem, he's 20. ). I really hate the fact that he rides a motorcycle at all....he's not even that experienced at driving a car, and a motorcycle is a whole different ballgame. At least with a car, you have the protection of it around you. Thank God your nephew is ok...I'm sorry this happened to him, but like everyone else is saying, I do hope this is the warning that he needed. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
