So I was watching this video on MTV the other day. It was a hip hop video and the song was called 'Crank Dat' by this young rapper named Soulja Boy.
I liked the dance they were doing and a couple of times I played the song in my car as I drove hom from work.
Well... the last time I did that, I actually not only listened but also paid attention to the lyrics of the song. Some I didn't understand because he uses a lot of urban slang. So I got online to see if I could find out what it meant and boy was I surprised!
It is a song that is demeaning to women and yet you have little girls as young as 7 years old dancing this song and their parents filming them and posting the videos on youTube. At school dances, the song is also played and even some teachers have been seen going crazy and dancing to this song.
I told several of my friends who used to like this song and they were also surprised to find out what they were shaking their butts to or dancing to or cranking up the volume to...
So even though the beat is neat and even though the dance choreography is cool.... I'll try to pay more attention to the lyrics of the song as well... because if I'm bopping my head to it, it's like if I'm supporting what this guy is saying.
I know this happens a lot.... how many of you loved a song because of it's beat but then found out the the meaning of the song was not what you expected? lol Raise your hand
*Raises hand*But i'm trying to be more careful of that now
