Subject: Misunderstood Song Lyrics! LOL Wed Jul 17, 2013 8:26 am
In the radio this morning, the dj's are talking about songs with misunderstood lyrics. People are posting in their FB page, as well as calling in, with the most popular misunderstood lyrics (and in turn, songs that they have sung the wrong words to, or they've heard others do). There are funny ones out there (such as "Sweet Dreams are made of CHEESE") or "excuse me, while I kiss THIS GUY" instead of "the sky" from Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze."
I thought it would be fun to list some of those here, and to also admit to which songs you've misunderstood the lyrics to. Since this is a family forum, we can go ahead and skip/rule out Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the Light." Probably the most misunderstood lyrics ever (and not very nice! lol).
Anyway, here's mine: in Barry Manillow's "Copacabana" I swear there's a part where the singers are actually singing 'have a banana.' Right at the 3:01-3:03 mark...pay close attention! If that is indeed what they are saying (doubt it), let me know!

Great topic!
I've heard Copacabana a million times, but never noticed the banana line. They're definitely singing that!
In the Beatles song "Norwegian Wood," there's a line that goes, "I sat on the rug, biding my time, drinking her wine." When I was a kid, I thought it was "I sat on the rug, biting my tie..." I had a weird mental image of John Lennon on the floor with a glass of wine in his hand and his tie in his mouth. *gnar gnar gnar!*

Um-hmm. Gotcha.

Actually, I CAN picture John Lennon (jokingly) biting his tie while drinking wine... He was quite a character! "Norwegian Wood"- wow, one of my favorites.

Spirits in the Material World by the Police was big when I was in high school, but I have to admit I never understood what the chorus was saying, even though it's the title of the song. I simply had no idea what the song was about until much later.

In the Simon & Garfunkel song "Keep the Customer Satisfied," there's the line "And I'm one step ahead of the shoeshine." I thought it was "And I once stuck my head in the shoeshine." I remember singing cheerfully along with it, and my sister saying, "Wait, wait... WAIT! What did you just say??"

OMG, Cheryl! That song came out when I was a pre-teen, and until I actually bought the album 'Ghost in the Machine,' I thought the title was "asparagus in my material!"

Someone on FB posted another good one, regarding Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." She said people often say "hold me closer, Tony Danza!" (instead of Tiny Dancer). Say what?

She didn't, but she said it's a common mistake people make. It doesn't make sense though...I've heard that song a million times and he cleary says "tiny dancer."
