PostSubject: Wish Me Luck!   Wish Me Luck! EmptyMon Jun 09, 2008 5:12 pm

I sent a resume to a new Early Childhood Center, right by my house, early last fall. I never heard anything...until today. They called and scheduled a job interview for Friday. Even though I only applied as a sub at the time, I'd love to get my foot in the door any way I can. My goal is to teach preschool once I have completed my degree, and this facility is where all of our districts preschool classes are now held. So, I am really hoping that this works out.

On another note, I am having some difficulty with my online class. It's an English class, which I have always done well with, but I am not used to this whole online thing and I am not doing as well as I would like to. I am more of a visual learner, where I do better if I can actually see an example of something in order to have a better understanding of it, but with this class it is all text. Text online, text in a book, and I am having a hard time trying to visualize it all, so I'm not doing as well as I'd like. I have to get at least a C in this class (I've maintained a 4.0 until this class Blue ), otherwise I'll end up having to take it over in order to get my degree. That'll be another almost $400 that I'd rather not spend, plus all of the time and effort that I've been putting into this! And it may delay me from graduating in Spring 2009, which is my goal. So, send some good "thinking cap" vibes my way, please!!

I wish you the best of luck at your interview on Friday, Pam!!!! I hope that your online English class gets better too. I've never taken a class online, but I bet it would be more challenging than being in a classroom with an actual instructor

{{{Pam}}}

I'll be praying for a great interview for you, and that the online class will begin to go more smoothly for you. I agree with Teresa......taking an online course seems like it would be much more challenging. You can do it, though, Pam! I know you can! I'll start the cheering squad again:

Thanks everyone!!!

Yes, the online class is much more challenging. I should know better than to try new things like that at my age. ROTFL I aced my first English class, and I love to write, so I thought it wouldn't be so bad. Shows what I know! Or don't know.

Don't give up with the English, Pam. I'm sure some day soon everything will suddenly click into place and you'll bewondering what all the fuss was about! And good luck with your interview. Good vibes are making their way across the Atlantic as I type!!

Online classes seem to have an extra challenge, in that it's a lot more independent studying. What are you studying in the English class, Pam? I took 2 Literature/writing classes my last semester, feel free to PM me if you want, maybe I could be of some help. Good luck with both the class and the interview.

It's a Communications 2 class, Christina. It doesn't sound like it should be that complicated, really. It's writing memo's, essays, a research paper, outlines, a power point, things like that. Then there are quizzes on what reading we've done in the textbooks and what they call class handouts/lectures. We also do these discussion board questions each week where we have some kind of lesson we have to do, like read an article and then discuss it, or this week it's looking up a topic on our online library database and discussing our findings. There's just so much involved, I'm having a hard time keeping up on the workload! I find it much easier to go to a face2face class, that way if you have any questions, you can ask the instructor right then or there. Plus you are able to go over quiz material, and things like that. This online stuff is just not for me!

4 1/2 more weeks to go. 4 1/2 more weeks to go. 4 1/2 more weeks to go.....

Thanks for your offer to help. I do appreciate that! grinsmiley

Good luck with your job interview Pam! I hope you get it! Teaching preschool would be what I would be doing too if it paid more....I was all set to be hired in at a great preschool, when we decided that I would need to bring in more income to make ends meet. They are highly underpaid----they make elementary school teachers seem like they're making the big bucks! I still hope this is something that I'll be able to do one day...I know it would be rewarding in other ways.

Good luck with your class, Pam. My friend took an online class and was 4 pointing everything until that one too. It is a totally different way of learning and I don't think I'd be able to do it either! I hope you pass it and don't have to re-pay!! That would stink!! No

It's good to hear that you made it through, Sweetheart. I'm hanging in there. As long as I get my "C", I'll be okay with it at this point. I figure it'll be 4 more credits under my belt either way.

Yeah, Amy, I had to go to an orientation when I started the Early Childhood program at the college. They basically warned us that the pay is not there, even though you do the same kind of work as any other teacher: lesson plans, taking work home, conferences, etc. You have to do it because you love it.

Online is so much different than I ever expected. Hey, at least I know now! Tim was hoping I'd take more online classes just to save on the gas it took to drive back and forth to college, but this is it for me. Hey, if I get the job, I'll have gas money, lol. I'm going to work my butt of though because I really don't want to have to retake it!

Just wanted to update about the interview. It ended up being really quick and easy. I don't know if I mentioned that it was for the school district, but I had met the director before because she helped out at an after school event one time at Kelsey's school. She also happened to work at one of the places that I sub at, lol. She said she'd call me next week about coming in to spend part of the day in one of the rooms I'd be working in, to get a feel for it. I'd be working with toddlers again, and changing diapers again, lol. But, I would be happy working with any age group. It would be wonderful to have a regular job with a regular schedule again!! So, she gave me the speil about checking through other applications and she told me that'd she call me next week, about trying it out. There's A LOT of paperwork since it is through the school district. More than usual. But, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! It is so close by that I could walk to work. Thanks for wishing me luck!!

Pam, that's great! Sounds like a great thing.
I've been trying to get in w/ the school district for a while now, but I need something full time and a lot of the jobs that open up are part time only.
Well.... I'm keeping my eyes open though.

I'm happy for you! happy1

Thanks, everyone!

Carol, I hope you find something in the school district. That's one of the reasons why I'd really like this job, since it's in the school district, it'd have some great benefits. With many jobs in this field, it's hard to find any benefits at all.

Pam, that's great news! It certainly sounds promising!! I feel the same way, about working with any age group---I love my preschool aged kids, but I adore the babies and toddlers too! My youngest right now is 2. Oh, and walking to work!! That's more money in your pocket right there! Sounds GREAT!!! Applause I hope you get it Pam!! Cheer
