I'm guessing that there are many in the 'younger generation' (yep, leaves us out) that only know Ron Howard from the movies he produces. If they had been raised on the Andy Griffith Show like the 'older generation' (yep, that includes us) they would know that is where Ron got his start.....

I guess it was the word "weird" that struck me as funny. Like it was also weird that Andy attended the University of North Carolina, and later became close friends with Dick Van Dyke.

They were probably told to come up with a certain amount of information and found they didn't have enough, so they started reaching......WAY out there.....

I bet that's it. The only really weird one is that he was buried just hours after his death. Oh, and is it just me, or is number 7 blank?

I knew him as Richie before I figured out he was Opie.
Took me years to realize it was the same person!

When Robin Williams was on Happy Days (playing Mork), he turned on the TV at the Cunningham's house and said, "Oh, The Andy Griffith Show! That little Opie was so cute."

Cool, I did not know this! Will have to go back and see this episode again (maybe it will show up on MeTV again... Or is Happy Days on Netflix? Will have to look when I get home).

Ron was in American Graffiti along with a LOAD of other people that might surprise you..(Harrison 'Hans Solo' Ford, Richard 'JAWS' Dreyfuss, and others)...Here is some trivia about Happy Days.... "It's a common belief that George Lucas' American Graffiti (1973) was the inspiration for this series. In actuality, the pilot for the series (seen on Love, American Style (1969)) aired before Lucas began production on his film. However, the success of that movie caused producer Garry Marshall to reconsider his failed pilot and turn it into a series."

It's funny... American Graffiti kind of triggered the '50s nostalgia craze, even though the '50s were only 14 years in the past. That didn't seem unusual to me, because although I was born in the '50s, I was too young to remember them, so that era seemed very distant and exotic to me. But now if people started getting nostalgic about life 14 years ago, waaay back in 2002, I would be thinking, "What?? That was yesterday!" I'm sure older people in 1973 were thinking the same thing about the '50s.

Yeah, I knew about American Graffiti, definitely a classic. If you have never seen the Pilot of Happy Days here it is:
So as not to derail the Andy thread, here a a few pics I took last Jan (2015) when we went to Mt. Airy, NC.
Went to the Museum. This was in the lobby:

Great pictures! And thanks for the Happy Days pilot. Different Howard, different Joanie, same Potsie and Marion.

Well, shoot that Love American Style clip has been on YouTube for years and the day I post it CBS blocks it! It angers me when these shows are not available on DVD or on TV anymore and the corporate apes block it from being seen anywhere!
But yes, we had a fun time in Mt. Airy, I did not know we were going. My wife wanted to plan a trip last year to see snow. She asked where I wanted to go and I said "surprise me". So we drove to Mt. Airy, NC. There wasn't any snow. I assumed our trip was over but the next day we kept going farther north until we made it to Cleveland, OH and went to the house used in "A Christmas Story". And it snowed while we were there. That was a huge surprise because every year at Christmas I will tell my wife "You know Ralphie's house is still there I want to go there someday" never thinking we would actually go. So it was a lot of fun and the kids are fans of the movie too so they enjoyed touring Ralphie's house. Unfortunately they weren't very interested in the Andy memorabilia but they always tell me black and white shows are "old timey".
