Sarah Palin & Tall

John McCain has picked Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. She seems pretty cool. Looks like either way, this election will make history. We'll either have our first African-American president or our first woman veep!

I have to say, I'm really excited about who John McCain chose as his running mate. She's smart, feisty, a MOM......I'm telling you, I've thought for years that a Mom should be President. No Mom worth her salt would pay $10,000 for a toilet seat. Well, she may not be running for President, but I would be thrilled to see Sarah Palin elected as Vice President.

Sarah seems, for lack of a better word, AWESOME!!! She's a great speaker! McCain made a brilliant choice! She would be an asset to Washington.

I am thrilled with his pick for his running mate, too. She's got lots of qualities that I like and things that she stands for that I agree with.

I live in a suburb of Minneapolis, and the convention is in St. Paul, which is right next to Minneapolis. It's about 25 minutes from my house.

In 2007, Palin approved a $150 cash incentive to aerial gunner-pilot teams for each Alaskan wolf they kill. The incentive was called a "bounty" for killing wolves by Alaska Wildlife Alliance Director John Toppenberg. She agreed with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to allow Alaska state biologists to hunt wolves from helicopters as part of a "predator control" program which was allowed under a provision in a 35-year-old federal ban on the practice granting 700 permits to the state of Alaska. The program was heavily criticized by Defenders of Wildlife and predator control opponents, and prompted California State Representative George Miller to introduce a federal bill making the practice illegal. In March 2008, a federal judge upheld the practice of hunting wolves from the air, but limited its extent.

In May 2008, Palin objected to the decision of Dirk Kempthorne, the Republican United States Secretary of the Interior, to list polar bears as an endangered species. She threatened a lawsuit to stop the listing amid fears that it would hurt oil and gas development in the bears' habitat off Alaska's northern and northwestern coasts. She said the move to list the bears was premature and was not the appropriate management tool for their welfare.

These 2 issues quite concern me about her.. Just my opinion..

Is this fact or what was reported? I would love to see some documentation on it. Sounds like a poor decision if she actually gave that as a reason.

McCain made a smart choice and his advisors should all get a huge pat on the back. She's young, which will help her attract a crowd that McCain couldn't easily reach on his own. She's also more conservative than McCain, which helps balance his ticket and makes him more attractive to those who feel McCain is too moderate. One thing I don't think she can do is sway women voters. A woman who was going to vote for Hillary Clinton probably won't find Palin's politics to her liking. They're at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I opened this thread which I thought was about Sarah, Plain and Tall. I love those books and movies. Oh, well. A discussion about Sarah Palin is good, too. I had never heard of her, but from what I've read recently she seems like a good choice for VP.

The latest news is that Sarah's 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. Oops!

It's true. Sarah herself issued a statement about it.

The article I read said that McCain was aware of the situation before he made his decision. In an interview, Obama said that HIS mother was only 18 when she had him.
