I came across on TLC the shows about the Duggarfamily. I know we have discussed the group before and so I thought you might be interested in the latest update.
They have some new episodes of their life on TLC and on tonight's show, Michelle and Jim Bob are revealing to their kids that they are expecting #18, due January 1, 2009. They have kept it a secret and told all the kids when they appeared on "The Today Show."

You know what, though? I used to work for a lady who only had two children - and they were born 25 years apart. Her first child, a daughter, was born when she was 18, and had been married for just over a year. And, much to her surprise, she gave birth to a son when she was 43. Funny you should mention their oldest. Josh, I believe his name is, is 21, I believe, and just got engaged.

I saw the episode last night of Josh proposing... but he's a little too strict for me.... he can't even give her one little kiss!!!!
All they did was hold hands and kept saying I love you.... and it looks like they were hurting for a kiss lol...
I just kept thinking of this video

Whoa! :faint2: That happened to a school principal where my mom used to work too...she had her kids all off to college and...whooops!...here comes another one!
I won't even comment on the family size (I've said my piece on the other thread ), but I will say that I don't like the idea of telling the whole family on National TV! That's a private family matter...whether they have 2 kids or 17 kids, their feelings should be taken into account. That just doesn't set right with me.

Amy, I thought the same thing regarding telling the family, and basically anyone else in the world willing to listen, on national tv about the next baby. Maybe I'm just a little too sensitive, but if I was one of the children, I'd want to know before the rest of the country got in on the news.
It's odd, though....I could have sworn that I got an e-mail about a month ago, announcing that they were expecting their 18th child. I need to see if I still have it, or if I've deleted it. I remember telling someone else about it, even.

Oh, that's strange! I do think we talked on the other thread about them wanting another one...that's all I knew.
And I feel the same way...there may have been even just one or two of the kids that would be sensitive to the idea of another one. Maybe the parents already knew that they all wanted another and felt confident about it though, but still. Let's face it, the kids have been 'conditioned' to accept this and probably want more just like the parents do.

I agree, Amy! And I've expressed my thoughts on that other thread, too. I came across TLC the other night and thought I'd check it out when they had previews about her being pregnant again.
As far as the number of children; I'm mixed on that, too. Her youngest is 9 months old and she's about 6 months pregnant now? I'm trying to do my calculations since she's due on Jan. 1st. I just cannot see getting pregnant so quickly one right after the other; even discussing your NEXT child when you've just delivered the last one. Why can't you just enjoy for a moment the one you just had? It's almost like her and her husband are addicted to it and I'm sure they are enjoying the fame, too. It just seems to me that having that many children that close together is such wear & tear on your body and your body doesn't have time to heal & recouperate.
She had said before that she's going to have as many as God blesses them with but my goodness, if they practice no birth control (I'm not saying they don't but it doesn't sound like it!) of course she's going to keep having kids.
I'll shut up now!

Does anybody see their show '17 Kids and Counting'? Well, the family has grown on me although there are things that really surprise me, but to each his own ....
For example... Josh was explaining that when you date around, you are giving pieces of your heart away, so when you find "the one"... if you have dated around, you don't have a "whole heart" to give to that person. The dad, Jim Bob, said that Michelle had a couple of boyfriends before she met him and that she broght a lot of baggage into their relationship because of it... She was only 17! How much "baggage" did poor Jim Bob have to deal with?? :faint2: lol
Also, it looks a little scary when Michelle doesn't raise her voice to the kids... if she does, she does it with a smile on her face, well at least on TV Or she does this loud whispers saying "No no! Let's not do that" with a happy face. It just looks so fake! lol But I guess it works as the kids look well behaved.

Whoo boy, don't even get me started on that! I'm not saying you have to yell at kids (and I know you aren't either Carol), but there comes a time when they need to know you mean business. I have to witness my BIL & SIL raising their kids like that, and they've created little monsters!! But you're right---the Duggars are at least not having more children while some are little brats that need better 'child-rearing'---they are obviously doing something right since the kids seem to be good kids. I think structure has a TON to do with that, and the fact that the little ones have SO many 'mothers' and authority figures, simply in the older siblings. You can't really compare them to a family with a small number of kids---in most families there is only one mom and one dad and they better step up to that plate and be that authority figure, or they'll be in trouble. Look at Ma & Pa Ingalls---they didn't 'yell' at the kids, but they meant business and knew how to put a firm voice on when it came right down to it.

I know...I need to learn how to split quotes!!!
Wow...well, this is a 'different' mentality, one I haven't heard before, and probably not without merit to some extent. But how about looking at past relationships as a learning experience, one to better prepare you for the sanctity of marriage when the time is right? Past relationships form us, make us who we become, and certainly 'mature' us to be better prepared for marriage with one solitary person for life. It's an interesting POV that Jim Bob and Josh have, but I never felt like my hubby didn't get all of my heart just because I dated another guy once, you know?

I know they wanted to have a short engagement but I'm sure it was at least a few months. When the show aired the other day and she announced her pregnancy (I think she said she was 3 months?) and for me it aired late October & the baby is due Jan. 1st.

omw. this is going to be the biggest family ever. lol
i don't think that if i was Josh's wife or any of the kids that i would like it that much cause it is sorta like people will expect you to have that many kids as your mom. like what happens if one of the daughters can't have kids? i personally wouldn't want to tell everyone that but you know that people will be wondering.
as you said about her talking to the kids that i pretty annoying. please i think that all kids need a stern correcting atleast one time.
about dating i think in a way i know what they are saying because if you were hurt by the person you were dating you are not going to be able to get that close for a while. i think that is what he might have meant about Michelle.

I didn't see the episode - but I know the false sweetie-voice you're talking about. :Hahaha: I don't raise my voice, either. I'm just not a shouter. (Well, except for a couple of times when someone - an adult - had really pushed me. ) Anyway...I don't yell - but I sure don't use that "Now, now little pumpkin, we mustn't do that" stuff, either. Neither approach is very productive - shouting, or the sickeningly-sweet voice. There's nothing wrong with using a stern voice, and letting the children know that they're expected to behave. They need to know what's expected of them, and that their behavior is important. My Mom never yelled, either. She was the most loving, gentle, kind Mother you could imagine - but we also knew that she was no pushover. She meant business, and had our respect.

:Hahaha: My Mom used that type of voice ONE time when I was a little girl. My brothers and I stopped what we were doing instantly, because Mom NEVER spoke like that. We figured we'd better stop right then and there, or we'd be asking for dooooooom. :Hahaha:
