| LOL Dave, that would be the "norm", no one wants to adopt children in the area BUT Charles, unless it's for farm help.
I guess it wasn't mentioned, but even at the funeral, I can't remember seeing them.....maybe the all slept on the floor of the hotel. No one mentioned how traumatized they must have been also, not seeing and being in a burning home, Mrs. Kendall being catatonic, etc.

Are they hinted at any later on in the show?

| I think the blind children WERE mentionned. Adam spoke about them in a conversation he had with Caroline . He said they were very worried by Mary's condition and that they've send with their families until the scholl could be built again...It was on the second part of "May we make the proud". I'm sure I've seen this scene. It was when Adam also said Caroline that he would bring Mary to a psychiatric specialist to evaluate Mary's mental health...Am I crazy or this scene really happened? Vanesa. | |

| I'll have to youtube that one part one day. : ) Even so, there were a LOT of children to find foster homes for and still no mention of where they were. Travel was slow and parents wouldn't have arrived very quickly. People do rise to the occasion but separating the children with people not used to dealing with blind children, their fears, something glossed over for the main topic, Mary, but still important. I think for the writers, the fire was paramount, what happened later, less so. The house even came back last season! | |

| Vanesa, I think you are right that there was mention of sending them to their families. It's been a long time since I've seen the episode though. | |

| Since once the blind school is reopened in Sleepy Eye, Susan Goodspeed says she thought they would never be together again, I'm guessing the kids went home to their families. There could be missing scenes on the DVDs, since we know scenes are missing from other episodes. | |

| I've rewatched the entire episode today (ugh! It was hard to do so... ) and Adam really spoke of children being send to their families and some of them were boarded in families homes nearly by, at least for a while. I almost all TV show recorded in VHS. Maybe some scene were cut out from DVD.... Vanesa. | |

| I'm sure there were a lot of scenes cut out of the DVDs. Makes me a bit grumpy. | |

| I don't doubt that also, but for the life of me, can't figure out why...TV, yes, DVD, no. | |

| ^^ On what Bethandmanly and Little house lover is saying...
I agree. I have the first and seventh seasons on dvd and some of the night scenes in the first couple of episodes on the first season... look really choppy and grainy.
Like someone taped it off of antennae tv and the reception kept on going in and out.

| There are Alex. Different regions. I think you told me you had the "Can I call You Pa" scene in Fagin..... "Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?" "I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time." | |

| this is one episode that I can't bare to watch. I was very partial to Alice and hated to see her die esp in such a tragic horrible way. I can't even imagine what Jonathan and Andrew were going through and also Mary and Adam losing their baby. I will admit that I used to get discouraged that Adam and Mary did not grab Adam jr. Alice died trying to save their baby. so sad | |

| ok I have heard about other chat rooms on this show and one thing that I don't understand. People are saying that Alice used the baby to break out the window when the blind school was on fire. I have not seen this episode in a while and I don't make a habit of watching it because I can't stand to see Alice Garvey (my favorite character) die. I always thought that she used her free hand to break the window?? I am a little confused here. I don't recall her using the baby. Please keep the opinions on this coming. | |

| She did use her arm, something she mentions in an interview, but the scene was quick and it was tense, so you thought that. It was awful all around. This was a family show, a fire okay, watching a baby and friend burn in a window...that's another show, not LHOP. | |

| I just can't watch that episode. That is one that I have to change the channel when it comes on. I just can't bare the part where Alice hollers "help me" with the baby in her arms. Way too sad
Alice was a great character that was way too short lived

| In a deleted scene (thanks, Ted) Charles & Dr. Baker discuss the blind children staying with neighboring families.
Grim thoughts- Were Jonathon & Andy present when Alice's remains were retrieved from the ashes? I'd hope not, yet Charles had to get his own grandson's remains - odd with all the other people there. Surely Jonathon told Andy he didn't have to be there?
Did it seem strange at the end, after Jonathon & Andy talked, that they'd take comfort in watching the fire in the Ingalls' fireplace?
