I'm sure everyone has heard about this new "swine flu" by now, but I thought I'd share this. This really is scary, as most agree that it's too late to contain it. The short of it is, it could be months before there's a vaccine for it:

I want to preface this by saying that there's absolutely nothing funny about a chihuahua getting blown away by the wind, and there's nothing funny about a man named "Lavern" either. Whistle

Poor little dog. Rob, for shame . . . how would you feel if a wind picked up Casey and blew her . . .Okay, that's ridiculous. Nevermind. batEyes

The students that contracted the swine flu first are from St. Francis Prep Catholic School, which is not far from where I live. Started with 8 students that went to Mexico for spring break. The number of students are sick with the flu are growing. They originally closed the school for Monday and Tuesday, now they're closed for the rest of the week. Here's the link to the school:

http://www.sfponline.org/

Also, I heard this morning that the kids and teachers from the nearby elementary school (about 2 blocks away from St. Francis Prep) have also confirmed with swine flu. No

The first U.S. death from the swine flu has been confirmed in Texas. Just plain scary.

In Rob's case, it goes like this:

A 150-pound owner blew away in high winds in Michigan, his dog, Casey, found him safe and sound about three-quarters of a mile away.

"I was shocked when I found him," said Casey, owner's loyal companion. "You don't know how happy I was. I love him so much."

Thank you Carol. We're all taking every precaution to avoid getting it. Thumbsup

I was looking through general headlines last night - not in an entertainment or social section, just general headlines. And one of the headlining "News" stories was about Sarah Palin's daughter breaking up with her boyfriend. Huh? And it was listed in higher ranking than the school shootings in Germany and the church shooting in Illinois. Good grief. Since when did teen gossip become newsworthy??

I agree! I don't think many people will care she broke up with her bf!

Did I tell you how the local news reporter was hanging out at the mall on President's Day to see why people were at the mall? That made news. Now, I guess one could make a huge stretch and say it was a way to see how consumer confidence is doing these days, but the only clips they put on the news were a mother and me talking about the sandbox they have at the mall each year during winter vacation.

Hey there buddy, I'll just have you know that my father's middle name is Laverne!

(And we love to tease him about it! grinsmiley).

Rob, that was a great article! What a neat story....I'm sending it to my friend who owns a Chihuahua---she'll get a kick out of it!

Lily, I hadn't heard about the other school having some kids contracting the swine flu! How scary! You know, the thing that really ticks me off about the spring break kids? What kind of moronic parents send their to MEXICO for spring break anymore?! Everyone knows about the drug wars going on there, and then there's the trafficing of women and young girls as well. I mean, come ON. People really need to get some common sense.

We have six students in Mexico from Michigan State University right now, studying abroad. So far they're ok, but school is closed for them.

Ah, true. Kind of like Anne of Green Gables. Spell it A-N-N and it's absolutely dreadful! batEyes

Concerned, but not panic.....YET.

So far, the schools here have cancelled any extra band concerts, tryouts ect. Just to keep crowds from being together. I'm hoping we get to finish the next 5 weeks of school without any interuptions.
The hurricane in September was enough.

Keep us updated in your area. :fyi:
