| (Original post from Toby at the old board)Toby said: I was wondering if some of the forum members can post which scenes are missing from the DVDs. Please list the season number, title of the episode, and a brief description of the missing scene. I have read that French-Canadion versions of the DVDs, which are only in French, and versions released in the UK are complete without missing scenes. I'm hoping that some of the international members of this forum can look at the missing scenes that people post, and post whether the scene is missing from their country's version. I think seasons 1 and 2 have been released in Australia and the UK. I'm not sure what has been released elsewhere. Rick, who runs a great Little House website at http://littlehouse.sphosting.com/ has the best explanation I have seen of why scenes are missing from the US dvds released by Imavision. Here is what he says: NBC made a syndication set back in 1984 and had Worldvision distribute for them. In the last few years, Worldvision was phased out by Paramount and they took over distribution of Little House for TV reruns worldwide.
The tape masters stricken off the original 35mm prints of the uncut Little House series NBC has stored in the Burbank vault. Paramount has them and the syndication sets at their studio in Hollywood.
NBC choose to use the syndication masters for the Imavision DVDs in North America region 1, so Paramount shipped those to Imavision in Canada for DVD replication.
The original 35mm negatives are housed at NBC's company warehouse in Fort Lee, New Jersey. This is where they store their filmed series after they convert them to tape masters.

- The current DVDs in the US are made from the syndication tape masters. For us to get an uncut version, Paramount would have to ship the original tape masters to Imavision. Distributors in other countries may have received original tape masters. For us to get the best looking version of the series possible, NBC would have to pull the original 35mm film from their warehouse in New Jersey. That doesn't seem like too much to ask considering what they charge for the DVDs in stores. Rick said a transfer to Blu-Ray or another HD format would even be possible if the original 35mm film was used.

- Daisy,
I think you have an uploaded missing scene from the Family Tree right? I never saw that scene before, it was wonderful!
Here is her link: Albert Saying Goodbye
Thanks so much for uploading that Daisy! I gotta get my handkerchief now... - Christina wrote:
- Ooh, how I wish they didn't cut that Albert & Laura scene! It was so emotional, and it was really awesome of Daisy to share!
Thanks for the info Toby...I really had no idea there was that much too it. Somehow, I had thought that the TV versions of the episodes (that have scenes cut for commercial time and stuff) were put to DVD simply b/c no one wanted to go back and find deleted scenes - I didn't know there was so much else involved, with the deleted scenes being in a vault and everything. Wow. - LIWnut wrote:
- The scene that bugs me the most that they cut out was in Fagin when Charles and Albert talk in the barn. Albert asks if he can call Charles "Pa".
I would love to see that clip again. - bethandmanly wrote:
- I'm going to try this again, since the forum went down while I was posting it the first time.
This missing scene is from the Season 5 episode, "The Wedding": Mary calls off the wedding because she is afraid Adam and she might not be able to care for a sighted child. They argue and Adam leaves.
What we don't see is Adam showing up at Caroline and Charles' hotel room and breaking down into tears.
This one is from the episode "Sweet Sixteen" from Season 6: Laura comes back from her first day of teaching in Curry with a box in her hand. Miss Trimble is on the porch and they have a conversation which was cut when this episode aired on TBS and on the DVDs.
Miss Trimble: What's in the box?
Laura: I bought a pair of high-heeled boots. I thought they might make me look older.
We also don't see the close up shot of Laura walking to school the next morning where she is looking at her feet and says something like, "I'm going to learn to walk in these boots if it kills me."
I'm sure I can think of more later.

| I noticed some scenes, which are missing in the german version of LHOTP (as only season 1 is released on DVD by now I only can talk about what is shown on TV):
Wilder and Wilder The talk between Pa and Almanzo in the barn, when Almanzo admits that Laura isn't a little girl anymore. Can't believe they cut this important scene, but on the other side I never had to handle the confusion about Almanzo seeing her as a girl again in the beginning of "Sweet Sixteen".
Sweet Sixteen The talk between Laura and Pa on their way home from Curry, when Pa said, that Almanzo could be in love with her but he won't allow his daughter to get marriet before she's 18 years old. Can only shake the head about this cut. In the german version the scene ends with Laura's question, if Almanzo could be in love with her.
The third talk between Laura and Ms. Primble, when Laura admits that she loves teaching more and more with every day is also missing. What a pitty, I really like the older Lady and always wished, there were more scenes with her.
HLM-HLMN 2 The funny scene, when Laura and Almanzo are going to leave Sleepy Eye and while they are kissing Almanzo nearly drives the wagon into a store. Don't know why they grudge us this little laugher.

| Meanwhile I own some of the Imavision-DVDs and when I watched "Author! Author!" from season 6, I noticed a scene was cut. It's when Charles and Caroline read Grandpa's stories in bed, and they come up with the idea, they should be published in a book. Caroline shows Charles a funny passage on her page. First he laughs, but then the smile dissapears from his face. Here the scene on the DVD ends. What is cut off is the following conversation between Charles and Caroline: - Caroline asks him, what's wrong. - Charles explains that on this page he had read a story about a boy was kissing Caroline when she was a little girl. He aks for more and more details about this boy. - Caroline starts laughing, because it's stupid to be jealous of something, which happened so many years ago and long before she and Charles first met - Charles has to agree, but turns away like to get off asleep and still annoyed he mumbles something about bad behaviour of the children back then... Well, it's not such an important scene, but a funny moment between Charles and Caroline and Charles facial expressions are just priceless... | |

| I watched "The Werewolf of Walnut Grove" from season 6 recently and noticed, that a scene is missing at the Imavision DVD:
When Bart Slater scoffed at Eliza Jane at her home, she asked Charles for a meeting of the school board. The next scene, which is missing at the DVD, shows Harriet, who bustles in the parlor to get ready for this meeting. In doing so, she explains to Nels that Bart can't be excluded from school because his father is so rich and important for the mercantile... But, she continues, as Nels - quite natural - would also vote with this in mind, there would be no doubt that the poll would end satisfyingly. But Nels says, that in his oppinion Bart very well deserves to be excluded and that he would vote against Harriet in the meeting. Harriet is upset and - as the board chairman - without further ado she dismisses Nels from the school board, telling him, she would replace him by somebody, who had more common sense and - on top of that - who would agree with her. Nels, just mumbling as usual, asks who ever this could be... The episode (and the DVD) continues with a close-up view of Nellie, who is among the members of the school board meeting.
So the DVD shows the punchline of a joke, which isn't told at all...
Edit: Added that the scenes are missing at the US-DVDs to avoid confusion because I sometimes write about the german LHOTP-version.

| You know Rana, I had forgotten that part of Werewolf, and I remember when I watched that episode on DVD so I could write a fan fic, I thought, "When did Nellie make it on the school board?" Yep, that scene never should have been taken out. Good catch.
Glad to see you posting again. I hope that means your eyes are feeling better.

| Cheryl, I would like to read such a fanfic by you anyway... ;) BTW: View is still very blurry, but the eyes are better yet, than they were last time, when we met. | |

| That's part of the reason I've held onto some of my tapes. If the missing scenes are on the tapes, I'm not ditching them. It irks me when they cut out scenes on any DVD.
When Into the West was on, I watched it and loved it so much that I bought the DVDs. I erased the shows from my DVR and found out that they cut out certain scenes on the DVD that I would liked to have seen again.

| Fortunately not in this case. I'm a member in a german LHOTP-forum too and there was told that in Great Britain and - but I'm not sure if I remember this right - in the Netherland the LHOTP-DVDs are uncut. But I don't understand Dutch and in GB only two or three seasons are released yet in very poor quality. So I finally went with Imavision, when I found a retailer here in Germany. | |
