Lower back pain during cycle

Ugh... I guess it's gotta happen sometime
I never really had bad cramps during those 'special days' lol. But now for the first time, I am along with lower back pain. It's awful

I took some Aleve but not really helping. Does anyone else get lower back pain and if so, what have u taken?

I really think Motrin works well. Have you tried a heating pad?

Since I've injured my back three times, lower back pain comes and goes, but it's usually around during that time. Motrin is good and the heating pad can help, but sometimes cold does a better job for me. Walking helps to strengthen the muscles in your back, so I usually try to get out and walk once a week. Should be more often but my schedule doesn't allow it. Stretching exercises help me too. Those back massage products are pretty cool.

I sometimes get this. Advil always does the trick for me on all of those "special symptoms."

Carol, I would recommend an ice pack. I have back aches quite often, and I see a chiropractor every few months. He has always told me to use ice packs. He's never suggested heat. I've tried heating pads in the past, but I tend to think that ice works better. Heating pads would be soothing for cramps, though.

This is going to sound funny, but if I'm having cramps at night, and the Motrin hasn't kicked in yet, my little, hot blooded Italian Greyhound is used as my hot water bottle. She sleeps with us, and always lays up against my stomach when I'm sleeping on my side. She generates so much heat for such a lean, short-haired pooch. LOL!! But that's what they're known for. Yes, I know I'm weird!!

Yep, I'm a 'Motrin' girl myself. A heating pad (or a hot blooded Italian man greyhound ) should do the trick. Feel better Carol!

Yes, ice is best. I thought heat too, but have learned with a frozen shoulder that ice is the way to go.

I often have lower back pain, but that is more associated with arthritis than anything else. Cold for this kind of pain only makes it worse, so I have to go with heat and ibuprofen.

More than back pain though, I always seem to get the worst headaches during my cycle and I have spoken to other women who have the same complaint. I don't know how the two would be associated though.

My chiropractor has always told me to alternate between heat and ice actually. I guess just try both Carol and see what works for you!

Pam, I get headaches sometimes too around mine. Actually, all of my symptoms at that time of the month have increased since I've been nearing the 'big one'. I have no doubt that I'm perimenopausal and that's why everything is changing for me. I've always been very fortunate with a lack of symptoms before and during 'that time', but now---not so much. Hormones are a powerful thing.

Pam!! LOL!! You know, I'm thinking I am DEFINITELY going through the perimenopause...they just had a doctor on this morning saying that thinning hair is one of the symptoms. Um, that would be me.
