Oh Carol, I had never seen that before! Thank you SO much for sharing it....so neat when they all sang Edelweiss! How I wish Christopher could have been there leading it though.

I've got to tell you that I as always disappointed that Christopher didn't like working with kids.

I believe they said last night on Before They Were Stars that they dubbed the singing for Christopher Plummer. I always thought that was him singing.
Amy, did you know the girl who played Gretel was in a Brady Bunch episode?

Plummer didn't like the movie either, did he? Seems like I read that he always referred to it as "The Sound of Mucus."

Wow, I would never have guessed that wasn't Christopher's voice! They did a good job of making it 'sound' like it could have been his. Lori, what episode was "Gretel" in? I would love to know! I'm sure so many people feel this way, but Gretel was always my favorite. I also loved Marta. (I wanted to name one of our dogs Gretel, LOL, but my hubby wasn't having it ).

I was shocked when I found out that Christopher Plummer didn't like The Sound of Music. I choose to live in my own little universe, though, and pretend that he loves it.
I always thought that Charmian Carr (Liesl) had amazing eyes:
And I was very surprised to find out that she was only 13 years younger than Christopher Plummer when they made the movie!
Maybe his stern character made him look so much older to me.
And Gretel was absolutely darling.

Yep, if you watch that video clip Carol posted they actually mention that in it. And as Lori pointed out, Plummer didn't even sing. If I remember right from reading Forever Liesl, Plummer was interested in another role and he felt doing the musical would help his chances of getting that role. I have the 40th Anniversary DVD, which brought all the kids back together again for a sit down. They also had a fireside chat with Plummer and Andrews. It's obvious they have a great deal of respect for one another. He truly seems to adore her. He talked about not liking to work with children, and how the kids can just steal the entire scene.
Plummer had always been one of my favorite actors until I heard and read those things. Now, when I watch the musical, he just irks me.
Savannah, I always loved her eyes too. As for Plummer, I wonder if they intentionally made him look older because the captain had so many kids.

I thought when I watched the DVD I had, that he said that by the end of the movie he realized he really did like the group that portrayed his children and them getting teary eyed when he joined them in singing after the falling out of the boat scene was because he had acknowledged it?

I was bummed to find out he didn't sing. I agree that they did a good job of matching the voice.
"Gretel" is in the episode where Peter likes a girl but he has trouble talking to her so he has Greg in the bushes telling him what to say. I would never have guessed that was her in that episode.

I'm going to go with that. I think Savannah and I have a lot in common and it's just better to live in a fantasy world sometimes.

Oh yes, that sounds familiar! I don't think that's one of my 'most watched' episodes of BB....I can't picture the girl at all. I'm sure at the time I never guessed it was Gretel either!

I probably blocked that part out because I was too ticked off knowing he didn't sing.

I'm reading "Forever Liesel" right now and I think that it said that he was really upset that he wasn't going to sing. I think someone wanted to use another person because compared to Julie Andrews, Chris, wouldn't sound so good. So even though Chris was upset, in the end he agreed.
I love this book! I am finding out how much The Sound of Music touched some people and the behind the scenes stuff is great! It's interesting to realize that Charmian (Liesel) was only 13 years younger than Chris (the captain). She talks about how she got to stay in the same hotel as Chris and how Chris would play the piano every night, until late late at night and Charmian would sit with him at times.
Yeah, Chris pretty much treated the kids like the captain treats them at the beginning of the movie... very distant, but Charmian said that she enjoyed him because he made things interesting and fun on the set, she said that when he finished his scenes and had to leave location, sometimes things would be a bit boring without him.

Oh my gosh, I was just checking my son's college website and look who is playing at their theater this weekend!
(and WOW, I just noticed some of the other actors in it---I was star struck at first by Christopher Plummer! Helen Mirren?! James MacColvoy?!(Atonement), and ROB----Paul Giamotti----That's John Adams!!! I HAVE to go!!!!)

When I first saw this, I thought it was a play, and that all those people would be there in person! But I see by that link that it's a movie.

Oh my gosh....I just got off the phone with the theater. Can you tell I was in a hurry when I read that Rob?! I called to see if they had tickets, and realized that it was presented by the FILM society! DUH!! I thought it was a play too!! Now, that would really be something if ALL those great actors showed up here in little old Michigan to do a play at a small theater! At first I thought it might be possible that Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren might actually come, but upon reading the other names? Uh uh. It was a bit misleading at first I think, because both Christopher and Helen do a lot of theater. Oh well---so much for my weekend of 'hob-knobbing' with the movie stars!
The good news is, I would like to see this movie. I'll just wait for it to come to dvd.

Amy, that reminds me of something that happened here back in the '70s. A TV station in Cadillac carried the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for the first time, and a few hours into it, the local host said, "We've got all kinds of people showing up at the studio here in Cadillac hoping to meet Jerry Lewis and Ed McMahon and all the celebrities. They're not here! The show is in Los Angeles... we're just broadcasting it!"
