| For any dog owners out there...
When you take your dog for walks, does the dog usually lead or does he/she walk by your side?
Shadow wants to smell everything so he is going from left to right in front of me like a mad man... I felt sorry for him so I let him do that, but I want him to also properly walk well.
How are your dog walks? | |

| Our dog was exactly the same way when she was younger. She would get really excited and want to check everything out. We would just gently nudge her along until she would eventually calm down. Now, the only time she gets really excited is when she sees a squirrel. | |

| Carol, I don't know the name of the collar but I use one that has a little chain on it that tightens when the dog comes to the end of it's leash. Your dog will learn that he has to stop when it tightens. It doesn't hurt them but it teaches them to stop when you want them to. My dog is 9 and has always worn one. She walks ahead of me but if I tighten the leash or want her to stop, she knows to do so and doesn't pull against me. My brother's dog had never worn this type of collar and always pulls at the leash. When I put this collar on him, he learned quickly that if he does't stop, he'll get a surprize. It was amazing how quickly he learned to stop while wearing this collar. When I put his own back on him, he went back to pulling again. I'll try to find out the name of the collar for you. Good luck. | |

| No Pam, not those ones. The one my dog wears is a regular collar with just a small chain to hold it closed. Those ones are all chain. I'll have to find out what they are called and let you know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_(collar) Thanks Marilyn! I'm going to buy one of those tonight. It sounds like a great collar because it will not slip off if I pull the leash a little. I will have to start training Shadow. He is too wild and thinks of himself as the DOMINANT LEADER on our walks... but that is about to change. lol He will go to the sides, stop and smell something, then all of a sudden take off running and pulling my arm... | |
