| When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300°C. The Russians used a pencil. 5 things you can't do! 1) Lick your elbow. 2) tickle yourself. 3) Draw The Number Six While Making Clockwise Circles With Your Leg. 4) Fit your whole fist in your mouth. 5) Sneeze with your eyes open.
A kid gave his teacher a blank piece of paper. Teacher: What is this? Kid: It's a drawing of a cow eating grass. Teacher: (looked at the paper) Where's the grass? Kid: The cow ate all of it. ...Teacher: (looked at the paper again)Then, where's the cow? Kid: It left because there was no more grass.

| I just spent 5 minutes trying to lick my elbow. The wife thought I was crazy.
Now she knows for sure. | |

Makes you wonder how someone came to be trying this in the first place. - Then Alex wrote:

| Somehow I have a hard time seeing you actually doing the "Barney pride sniff", Savannah! Hmm, I can DO the leg circle/ draw 6 thing, but I will admit, it's not exactly a true 'circle'. But I'm close. | |

Alex, I just replied to this on Facebook. The story is an urban legend that's been debunked by snopes.com. An inventor named Paul Fisher developed the pen on his own, and didn't charge NASA for its use. American astronauts and Soviet cosmonauts had used pencils before, but both used the space pen after its invention.

The tipoff was the $12 billion. I don't think the entire space program in the '60s cost that much.
