| Where was the nearest railroad station to Walnut Grove? Sleepy Eye or Mankato? I gather Walnut Grove didn't have one? | |

| Sleepy Eye is closer and that's where they usually caught the train, if I remember right.
Speaking of Walnut Grove not having a train station, in the episode, A Wiser Heart, where Laura goes with Eliza Jane to Arizona, Laura tells the stationmaster she wants a train ticket to Walnut Grove. I wonder how she bought one, since the train only went as far as Sleepy Eye.

| There was also a train station in Springfield, which is a bit closer to Walnut Grove than Sleepy Eye is. In the season 9 episode "The Empire Builders", the railroad that was originally going to go through Walnut Grove is built through Tracy instead. Tracy is very close to Walnut Grove (just a few miles to the west on modern day US 14). | |

| And why didn't they go to Springfield more often? | |

Isn't Tracy referred to in the book, "The Long Winter"?

That's a good question. If I recall correctly, Springfield was mentioned and shown more frequently in the earlier seasons. Maybe the writers just forgot about it.

| The hilarious thing is that in real life, Walnut Grove ITSELF had railroad station...Laura wrote about it in "By the shores of silver lake" Vanesa. | |

Isn't Tracy referred to in the book, "The Long Winter"? Yes, it is. They were trying to clear the way in from Tracy to get the trains through.
