My mom...

I'd like to ask for prayers for my mom. She is going in tomorrow morning for surgery on her kidneys. It has been an extremely trying and difficult year for her, and for all of us. We didn't know what was wrong with her....she just was getting more and more fatigued and depressed, to the point where Atrophy is setting in because she doesn't move enough anymore. This is the woman I couldn't even keep up with two years ago. She's finally been diagnosed with a kidney 'stricture' and has 45% efficiency in one and 50% in the other. On top of this, we found out very recently that she has Hyperthryoidism, and has been overmedicated for a VERY long time with her thyroid medication. This could have affected the kidney efficiency as well. So she'll be treated with a much decreased dose now (by her NEW doctor) and will see an endocrinologist to figure out the Hyperthryoid treatment...most likely hormone therapy. We're just so thankful we're finally getting some answers, and that she's actually going to get treatment and help. It's been terribly painful to watch her go through this, and I have never felt so helpless.

My mom was diagnosed a year and a half ago with Alzheimers so she's a little confused about what's going on tomorrow. The doctor said her disease will worsen in the hospital and for probably 3 weeks thereafter...it will take awhile to balance out again. So if you could pray that her surgery goes well, and that she won't be too frightened, being there. I'm so worried about her. My dad will be with her though, and will spend the night there too. Hopefully she'll come home on Wednesday.

Oh Amy, I am so sorry......prayers being said for your mom....I know how concerned you have been about her health lately.....

And many prayers that this surgery and the treatment for her thyroid (finally!) will be the beginning of seeing some marked improvements in her health! Love you, Amy!

Thank you so much Rob, Jacob, Rhonda & Savannah. I just got home from my parents' house....my mom is having a bit of a panic attack. I don't blame her---surgery is a daunting thing, whether you have all your faculties or not. I decorated her tree tonight so that she'll have that to enjoy when she returns home, and massaged her shoulders/back which really helped to relax her. I'm hoping she can get to sleep now, since they have to be up at 3:30am! The surgery is at 7:30am. I'll keep you all posted.

Praying for your mom, Amy. She must feel very weak with some kind of kidney failure and hypertiroidism...and you must feel very sad for her, since seeing your own mom suffering before your eyes must be devastating.

I am getting worried....it was supposed to only be an hour to 2 hour surgery, and we're at 3 now. I'm not sure what is going on...no updates as of yet.

Ok, just heard. My mom is out of surgery and I hear she did great! Thank God. I'm going up to the hospital at 1:00...my sister and dad are there now. SO relieved! Thanks for praying everyone!!!

Well, for awhile there it was scary. She was not coming out of the surgery like they expected her to. It's taken all day for her to stabilize. She had trouble with her breathing as well and they put her on a ventilator for 45 minutes. She finally got her room just now and they are going to put a monitor on her, because they're still worried about her breathing. It's making me uneasy....she was SO weak going into this, I just hope to God she was strong enough for this surgery.


My poor dad...hasn't slept a wink since Sunday night...I guess they were up ALL night last night. Not easy for a couple of 70-somethings. His emotions are understandably very raw right now. I can't wait to get back up to the hospital in an hour.

Please continue to pray everyone...I am still very worried about her.
