We're back from the hospital and my mom is doing a little better. Still not fully 'out' of this yet...they think she may have gotten too much muscle relaxer...possibly too much anethesia. That would explain it. But she'll be monitored throughout the night.

My poor dad....they brought his cot in when we left and I know he's going to sleep like a baby!!

My Mom went through that with her hysterectomy early this year. Her breathing was very shallow, and she was only taking 4 breaths per minute. It scared us all terribly! So I know how to pray about that for sure!

I hope you'll be able to sleep well tonight, Amy. I know how this must all still be weighing on you. But she has a lot of prayers going up for her - and there's a lot of power in prayer!

Please, Amy. Keep us updated. I'm still praying for your mother...and for you, who must be very anxious .

Thank you Savannah....yes, they said her breathing was very shallow. But it sounds like she'll be coming home today!

She wanted to come home last night, so I hear. She started freaking out with a nurse that apparently had no bedside manner with her....she was too rough with my mom and not nice at all, and my mom just needs people to be reassuring and sweet with her, since she is so confused right now. My dad said she was trying to pull out all the wires and told him they were going home! If you knew my mom, who is mild mannered and a 'people pleaser', lol, this was pretty out of character for her! But the neurologist had warned that her dementia would get worse in the hospital, and so it has.

But, my dad said she woke up in good spirits this morning, and is glad to hear she's going home. I know she's ready to see her dog, who is staying at our house right now! That dog is her baby!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention last night that my hubby & I brought our son up to the hospital last night, and it was only with him that she really perked up. She actually gave him a smile. It's funny how grandkids can perk up a grandparent unlike no other, at any age!

Yeah, it's stories like this one that makes me want to go into nursing.

Amy, so glad things are getting a 'little' better....the waking up part can be scary, but I have heard that there have been so many stories of people waking up during surgery, that the OR's are using a heavy duty 'sleep aide' and it makes it harder to wake up.....Some of the tests I have had since all my stuff where it requires being knocked out......it actually took me longer to wake up and I have ALWAYS been one that wakes up as soon as they start waking you up....And nurses....OR doctors without bedside manners, need to go back to school and take a course in manners.....that is SO unnecessary!!! Prayers still going out....

I am soooooooooo sorry that I have missed this thread. What a scary few days you have had. I am so glad that you live so close to your mom, and you guys have been there for her every step of the way. That's awesome that she perked up more when she saw your son. Your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

Yeah Rhonda, I suppose if it were one or the other, I'd rather have her waking up slowly then waking up DURING the surgery! YIKES!!!!

She is due to be discharged within the next hour, if all goes as planned!

Still haven't heard anything yet...hope nothing has changed! I know they're both anxious to get home...(for some reason I can't help but giggle when I read or write that word...some of you know what I'm talking about )....looks like I'll be keeping their dog for a few more days though. Oh joy. I love her, but she's a little restless/anxious at our house, without her mommy!

Ha, ha! Yes, "anxious" is quite a word, isn't it????? I hope that your mom is able to go home soon. Keep us posted. She probably can't wait to watch, "Survivor." Ha!

She's home!!!


I just talked to her and she sounds 'normal' and relieved!! My dad said they're about to go to bed (it's 6:20!) and that they'll probably sleep for 24 hours! LOL!!!


Oh, and yes Teresa, I am very blessed to live only 10 minutes away from my parents, especially as they are aging. I know they are very grateful for both my sister and I. (She lives up the road from me!).

Amy, that absolutely makes my day to hear that she's home, and sounding more like herself again! I hope you ALL can get a good night's sleep tonight!

OH WOW! Home already...so glad they were able to let her go so soon after surgery....Praying she recovers quickly and they are able to get some much needed rest....
