| The actor played "Lumpy" on the classic TV series.
Frank Bank, best known for his role as Clarence "Lumpy" Rutherford on the classic TV series Leave It to Beaver, has died. He was 71.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Bank died Saturday, but the location and cause of death were not revealed.
His former Beaver co-star Jerry Mathers, who played the title character on the 1958-63 comedy, told the Times that he had been hospitalized recently in Rancho Mirage and had been suffering from illnesses.
"Lumpy was the ultimate bully, but Frank was a very, very kind and gentle person and a very good actor to play it so well," Mathers said. "The show was about all the people you knew growing up and throughout your life, and Frank brought that perspective to the show."  "Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?"

| Why is it bullies have such odd names? The hubby and I watched this show as kids, and our son was into it for a while in reruns. There is an episode where the Beaver and Ward (I think) are at Lumpy's house. I think it's one of those times that Lumpy is caught being a bully. Lumpy's father says, "Go to bed you big boob." We saw it in NC. My son thought it was so funny, that for months afterwards, we would say the same thing to him at bedtime. | |
