| I was watching this episode today. Can you imagine if it were that easy to adopt a child? Just go on down to the orphanage and take a child home the same day? My husband and I are adopting from Liberia and it takes months of paperwork, criminal checks, medical checks and more months for a referrel for a child. And there are thousands of orphans in Africa. Obviously it is a good thing we are so careful nowdays. But nevertheless...I was thinking "wouldnt that be nice" lol You remain responsible.. Forever... | Well. Yes..It WAS very easy. I studied this issue, for I was always interested in stories about "adopted children". Until the 1940', you could just go to an orphanage and just pic a child. That's absolutely true. This was this way in EEUU, Europe and in my country too. Nowadays things has changed . So you see...Not all things are more easy nowadays! I made an historical research who confirms this fact, but if you read some books with adopted children in them , you must notice how easy t was to adopt a child: -"Anne of Green Gables" by E. Montgomery -"Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens -"La Fortune de Véronique" by Suzanne Pairault. -"Daddy Longlegs" by Jean Webster. -"Dear Enemy" by Jean Webster (I reccommends highly this story to anyone interested in orphans. It happens entirely in an orphanage. These are the letters of its Principal, Sally MacBride. It happens in the 1910 years and not after, for the author has dead in 1913) -"Annie" by Tommas Meehan (This one is a classic. But if almost everyone has seen the 1982 movie or the musical play of Brodway, almost anyone has read the book. DO IT! Is very interesting and quite different than the musical and even the Harold Gray's cartoon) And others you can't read for they are in Spanish and are not available outside here...but yes; you could go and just pic a child from an orphanage. If Nancy heard you say that, she would surely say, "You hate me!" | |

| I agree, Savannah. They HAD to bring in someone to fill the shoes of Nellie. It would have been a little boring without dear old Nancy. She's the character you love to hate. | |

| I'll agree with that, too. Especially with locking Belinda in the ice house. That was too awful. | |

| as much as I love this televison show, I have never seen this episode! I would love to, though, just to be able to see how well Harriet did in replacing Nellie. | |

| I was surprised at how much Nancy looked like Nellie! Nancy sure was a brat, but that's just my opinion. I was happy to see Albert and Willie trick her and get her to go in the dunk tank at the end of the episode! | |

| I agree Cheryl....Nancy was on the edge of something from a Stephen King novel! She just really was the type of person that might not have turned nice as Nellie did. I shiver just thinking that there really are children like that.....yikes!
I think the writers worked hard to make Nancy humorous too. Just wish we knew more about her in her later years. Might need a fan fiction about that....any takers??? | I certainly didn't like Nancy's entrance to the show! I didn't think she would be as bad as Nellie, or that she could be as bad, but she certainly proved me wrong! |

| Nancy does not get the credit she deserves. Allison Balson was brilliant in that role. Could have very easily sold a spin-off focusing on the Olesons, and the presence of Nancy has a lot to do with that strength. | |

| Its a long time, since I last saw Nancy. I'm pretty sure, that I didn't like her back then. But I also didn't like Nelly first. So I maybe should watch a episode with Nancy on youtube. | |

I agree with you on not liking Nellie at first (more like at all for the first few seasons) but she practically turned into a different person once she met Percival! now if only we could say something like that about Harriet.... | |

| I think it could have been great, for Carrie had not major lines when she grew up. I wish she could have done something interesting in the show after Nellie's depart of Walnut Grove. She was now a "big girl" and she deserved "big girl lines" too. Vanesa. | |

| I agree. I would have liked to have seen Carrie's personality emerge in the later seasons. Things like taking a pet turkey for a walk and lines like, "I get to milk the cow!", were cute in the early seasons, but viewers need more than that from an older child. By season 8, Carrie was as old as Laura was when the show started. | |

| I am one of the people who cannot stand the Nancy character and wish she had never been brought in. I love Nellie, but Nancy has no redeeming qualities to me. I also hate it that Nancy is actually even pulling the wool over Mrs. Oleson's eyes and in my opinion Nancy has no love for any of the Olesons. At least Nellie and Willie did seem to really care about their parents. | |
