I liked him on Mork&Mindy and Mrs.Doubftfire. I am shocked and saddened by his death. He was so funny. According to E! network, he had several projects lined up. I never knew he was deeply depressed. I know he had been in rehab for addiction.

He suffered so much with mental illness and addictions. I loved him in Dead Poet Society and Good Will Hunting is a favorite. May he RIP.

This is shocking. I knew he'd had addiction problems, but thought those were in the past. I didn't know he'd been battling depression as well. It's very sad.

He hadn't used alcohol or cocaine in a very long time. He had recently been in rehab to fine tune what he had learned there years ago......I'm guessing he was so depressed, he might've been thinking about falling off the wagon. His show, "The Crazy Ones" had been cancelled after just one season, and I had heard that there were talks going on about a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire in the making. He suffered with bi-polar depression, and I guess this was the only way out for him....so, so very sad.

I was so shocked to hear this. I loved him in Mrs. Doubtfire, it was one of my favorite films when I was younger. Right now I am watching an episode of Happy Days that he guest starred on.
He was a brilliant man. May he Rest in Peace.

This reminds me of the Paul Simon song "Richard Cory," based on a poem by E.A. Robinson:
They say that Richard Cory owns one half of this whole town, with political connections to spread his wealth around.
He was born into society, a banker's only child, he had everything a man could want, power, grace and style.
But I work in his factory, and I curse the life I'm living and I curse my poverty, and I wish that I could be, oh I wish that I could be, oh I wish that I could be Richard Cory.
The papers print his picture almost everywhere he goes, Richard Cory at the opera, Richard Cory at a show.
And the rumors of the parties and the orgies on his yacht, he surely must be happy with everything he's got.
But I work in his factory, and I curse the life I'm living and I curse my poverty, and I wish that I could be, oh I wish that I could be, oh I wish that I could be Richard Cory.
He freely gave to charity, he had the common touch, and they were grateful for his patronage and they thanked him very much.
So my mind was filled with wonder when the evening headline read: Richard Cory went home last night and put a bullet through his head.

Lost behind the smiles
Such sadness deep inside Not even laughter seems to hide What lies so deep within Lies so deep within
Tears you may never see Chains that won’t break free Not even for a while Lost behind the smiles
Some may not understand And some will take your hand And walk with you in times of dark In times of dark
Tears you may never see Chains that won’t break free Not even for a while Lost behind the smiles
A pain that no one sees A pain that no one sees
Not even for a while Not even for a while Lost behind the smiles

I am so saddened to hear about this. I couldn't believe it when mom told me. It seems so unreal to me. He was so amazingly talented...whether he was being funny, or when doing serious roles. He will be greatly missed indeed.

Still just in shock over this loss. My sons both just adored him---have since they saw him as Peter Pan in "Hook". So sad to hear this news.
Did anyone ever see his movie "What Dreams May Come", a movie that he made about suicide? I'll tell you, it's a disturbing movie....it's about an affluent family who, in the beginning of the movie experience several great tragedies. The wife cannot take the tragedies and commits suicide, and the rest of the movie is spent in this other dimension, where the husband (Robin Williams) is trying to save the wife's soul in the afterlife. It really makes you 'think', it had to make HIM think, and I remember a time that my family discussed how, especially after seeing that movie, a person would really have to think hard before actually taking their life. So it was the first thing I thought of, when I read the news about Robin's death. I am just so sad that it went as far as this, that he felt the need to do this. We never know what's really going on down deep with another person, and as Rob said, money and success don't equate happiness. Depression is a VERY misunderstood beast and there is no way of knowing what demons he was truly battling. I didn't realize he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I hope his meds were regulated....there is so much to learn about anti-depressants and what their affect is on people. It's hard to know at this point how much 'control' he had over this decision.
My favorite movie of his was Good Will Hunting. My dad & I never missed Mork & Mindy. And I'll never forget being blown away by his performance as the Genie when I took my son to see Aladdin at 3 years old. Talk about a versatile actor, who could make you laugh hysterically in one movie and bawling in the next.
A moment of sheer joy in his life. I love this moment with Billy Crystal at the end:
Praying for his family and close friends. Rest in peace, Robin...

Two of my favorite Robin Williams movies are, "Good Will Hunting" and "Awakenings." "Good Will Hunting" is one of my all-time favorite movies. So powerful! "Awakenings" is a great movie as well. I recommend it if you've never seen it. Robert De Niro stars alongside Robin. It's a tear jerker.

Just heard on TV, ABC will be airing an hour long special on 20/20 tonight dedicated to Robin Williams. Check your local listings for times in your area.
I am sure the other networks are putting things together as well, so will have to keep an eye out for those tributes.
This here, shows how great a person he was.....
One week after Christopher Reeve's tragic horse-riding accident, Robin visited him in the hospital. However, he was dressed from head to toe in scrubs, spoke with a Russian accent, and had a surgical mask on. He was acting as if he was a real doctor and did a bunch of wacky antics. After he took off his mask, Reeve stated that, "That was the first time he laughed since the accident!".

I was shock, when I heard the news. At first, I thought it was some cruel joke. (Like someone did a hoax) To get people upset, that it was fake death. So, I search his name. I saw Robin Williams passed away.
I liked him in Mrs. Doubtfire & Patch Adams. (The other guy from Patch Adams passed away this year. Phillip Seymour Hoffman.)

Oh Rhonda, that story is so sweet about his visit to Christopher Reeve! I read they were very good friends and I never knew that.
Ah yes, Teresa--Awakenings was GREAT! I forgot about that. Loved both him and DeNiro in it. Hard to watch, but yes, very good.

yes, that was another early great movie. I used to watch House and "Wilson" was the one who played the student who was also depressed in that film. Sad movie but it had funny parts and uplifting moments.

That was the first time I had ever seen Robin Williams in a serious role. I was amazed at what a powerful performance he gave. Five minutes into the movie I forgot that I was watching "Robin Williams", and instead I was engrossed in the film.
And I agree, too, Amy, that it's hard to tell how much control he really had over the decision he made. I had a very good friend who was bipolar, and after his mother died he just couldn't shake the overpowering depression. He had faith, and he knew that she was in Heaven, but he couldn't get beyond the grief of losing her here. Even knowing him for years (he was a fellow pianist, and we talked music a lot), and knowing how severe his bipolar disorder was, it still came as a shock to me when he committed suicide. And I feel so bad for Robin Williams' family, because they'll struggle with guilt over what they might have been able to do to stop him. Even as just a friend to my piano friend, I went through that, wondering if I'd been a better friend, or if I'd just known what to say if I could have prevented his death. So I know that Robin's family - and probably his friends, too - will struggle with that as well. *sigh* It's so sad for a person to feel such despair that they think suicide is the only answer.
