christmas - "CHRISTMAS AT PLUM CREEK" Report I love this episode! It’s so fun to see how the family is secretly working on their own stuff. We have Charles and Laura getting the same gift and Caroline and Mary getting another same gift, it’s too funny. Ah, but I like the ending because it shows that the gifts don’t really matter… love is what totally stands out in the end. Caroline felt so bad for her little Laura having to give Bunny away, and here was Laura worrying about her Pa… what a kid. This is an episode I can watch several times and not get tired.. it’s just great. Two thumbs up! Thumbsup Thumbsup

This is the kind of episode you watch that makes you want to go back to a simplier time, where it was all about family and making your own entertainment. It really puts me in the mood to make sure that I do fun things with my kids during the holidays and to make little traditions for them. I remember being a kid and how exciting it was pulling out certain christmas decorations. Little things in a childs mind hold so much magic.

this was a sad episode! I was so happy when Ma opened her new stove but I do not think Nellie deserved such a nice horse like Bunny. I was also sad when Laura opened the saddle from her pa!

a happy episode and a sad one at the same time. I thought Laura was so generous when she sold her horse just so she could buy her Ma a Christmas present but I wasn't exactly happy when the horse went to Nellie! it was also sad when Laura opened her Christmas present from Pa!

Another Thumbsup Thumbsup from me! The whole episode is great. Charles and Caroline must have been so proud of Laura for being such a loving and generous child. I almost feel bad for saying this, but am I the only one who snickers when Carrie says, "Happy birthday, Baby Jesus!"? ...Cheesy! Whistle LOL

I just watched this episode today for the millionth time! I never tire of it. I feel so bad for Pa for giving Laura the saddle, but you want to know what really kills me? The fact that Ma made a shirt for him out of the same material that Mary did. Don't ask me why, but that really bothers me! I just feel so bad for her.

I love this episode also. It teaches lessons about self-sacrifice and putting the wants and needs of others above your own and that the real joy of Christmas is not what we get but what we give. It was sad though seeing Laura have to give up Bunny.

I don't understand very well your point, since my first language is not English and there's no "," and very few "." in your sentences. Are you saying that Christmas back then was more about gifts or the opposite? Is the first, I think it is not true. People in those times would give more symbolic gifts than big, important ones. Most of the gifts were even homemade ones. Nowadays, children espects much more important toys and gifts I think... scratchead

I don't know. I don't think that is as true as people like to say it is. Of course, if it is anybody's fault, it is the parents. When I was a kid, there was nothing better than Christmas. I loved Santa. I won't deny it! My mother always talks about how my uncle (when they were kids) was so excited about Christmas morning that when he was in bed on Christmas Eve, he would make it literally shake (they slept in bunk beds). But he knew why there was this holiday called Christmas. And so did we. There is no way that we wouldn't have known that in our house.

But the reason I say it is the parents fault if a kid doesn't really understand Christmas is because of a video I saw on Youtube. I was actually watching the video of the Pilot Movie on Youtube a couple of years ago. And this woman wrote on there that she and her son were laughing so hard at it. She and her son couldn't imagine any kid getting that happy to receive a tin cup. She and her son couldn't imagine any kid actually being satisfied with something like that instead of a video game in the modern world. So when I read something like that, I blame the parents entirely for kids being the way that they are.

It also made me mad, though. This person wrote this as if EVERYONE nowadays has money. There are plenty of kids out there that would love to get their own cup because that maybe is all they will get. And that upset me so much. I just plain don't see the humor in what this person wrote. And it bothered me that she allowed that to be of comical entertainment for her son, too.

I did not grow up in a rich household. We got enough presents but they were never expensive. It was just the way it was. And that was OK because it was STILL Christmas!! And that is my point. This woman is obviously raising her kid to think that all there is in the world to that day is big expensive video games.

It just made me so mad. I don't know. Am I making sense at all? It really made me mad when I read that. I even complained about it to people when I first read it, but they all agreed that this woman had the wrong attitude and it was bad for her son to be brought up the same way.

I know all of you seem to love this episode, but it just makes me so sad that Laura sells Bunny, especially to Nellie, of all people! And also especially when it wasn't even necessary since Pa wanted to get the stove for Ma. I know Laura did it in order to get Ma something really special, but if I were Ma and I knew Laura sold her beloved pony so I could have a lifeless stove, I just think I would be sad every time I used it instead of happy!
