“BUNNY”
Nellie falls off of Bunny and pretends to be paralyzed. Mrs. Oleson blames Laura for this and wants to destroy Bunny. Laura tries to hide the horse from Harriet. One day, when Laura goes to help Nellie out, she discovers that Nellie is just fine. She pushes Nellie in a wheelchair down a hill into a small pond. When Nellie walks out of the pond, Mrs. Oleson realizes what Nellie has been doing. Mr. Oleson then gives Bunny back to Laura to punish Nellie.
This is a CLASSIC episode! You can really see how evil Nellie was here! I feel so bad for Laura... she felt like everything was her fault... her heart was so big that her own school work started suffering because she kept putting Nellie above her own needs. Yes, Laura was kind... but she was also full of spirit... which is demonstrated by how she acted when she finds that Nellie can walk after all! I just LOVE the quotes:
Harriet: "Laura! Where is that filthy animal?!" Laura: "Nellie... your mother wants you!"
... and she pushes her down the hill... Love it love it love it!
Hey, what if Nellie really had broken a leg and couldn't walk after that push down the hill?

This is one of my favorites. I watch it just about every time it's on. The wheelchair scene is one of the most memorable Laura/Nellie scenes. It ranks right up there with the mud fight.

I agree, John. Especially when Harriet land with her two feet up in the air! Hilarious! :haha:

I remember watching this episode with my parents the first time it was on (when the series was still being filmed)...my mother was so shocked when Laura pushed Nellie down the hill...she (Mom) said something like, "Laura could have KILLED Nellie just pushing her down the hill!!" Well, that was true, I'm very sure, but I loved Laura's spunk too, and the way she stood up to Nellie after finding out that Nellie could walk after all. Overall, I think that Nancy was far worse than Nellie ever was as far as behavior was concerned, but in this episode at least (and, I think, in a couple of others) Nellie could definitely hold her own in the "mean spoiled brat" department. I'm glad Nellie finally straightened out in later seasons.

only one of the episodes where Laura upstages Nellie to prove her wrong and get her into trouble! I loved this one! seeing Bunny go back to her rightful owner, Laura, made me happy!

I remember years ago when my mother and I came to this episode she became quite animated and refrained from telling me what transpires!
Nellie is quite the conniving child!
I wonder if at the beginning of the episode if Laura was supposed to drop her book.
Nellie: "They'll believe me. You lie more than I lie." I love it when Nellie slams the door after Willie comes into her room at night and then Nellie goes, "SHH!"
I don't like the ending of this episode with Nellie ranting about "getting" Laura. It was very odd and very un-LHotP.

Pretending to be paralyzed is so mean. The Olesons must have been so heartbroken when they thought Nellie would never walk again. Poor Laura felt bad too. This and how Nellie treated Bunny, Nellie at her worst.

What did she think she'd do pretend to be paralyzed all her life? Then of couse Harriet has to think that there is no way her poor Nellie could run the store in the Wheelchair. You think she'd want Nellie to be indepenant.

Nellie really was so mean in this episode...and how long did she think she was going to be able to pretend to be paralyzed? I was glad that Laura got Bunny back in the end, and when Laura pushed her down the hill:

I'm glad Mr.Oleson back to Laura. Nellie was mean to Bunny. Nellie faking she couldn't walk was a mean thing to do to her parents.

How did Nellie, got away with it? How many days, until Willie found out about her sitting in her rocking chair? Her parents never caught her once. She must be good at pretending to be paralyzed.

I think MRS Olsen really believed she was paralyzed.

I believe your right. Mrs. Olsen, believe that Nellie was paralyzed. Some people, are really good at faking an illness or injury. While other people, aren't good at faking illness or injury.

I enjoy any episode when Nellie gets exactly what is coming to her. She was so nasty and such a brat for so many years, and to know that Laura, her number one enemy, got the better of her was great.
