Blind Journey - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Blind Journey   Blind Journey - Page 2 EmptySun Apr 24, 2016 2:08 pm

Loved this episode, though seems a bit unrealistic that the whole school had to walk all the way from Winoka to Walnut Grove. First time we find out more about Adam's accident that led to his becoming blind and the scenes with him and Mary are really poignant and touching, some nice acting from Melissa Sue Anderson and Linwood Boomer. Have always loved when the Raschellas wrote Adam and Mary's stories, seemed like they made a real effort to give the actors something meaty to play. Liked how they made Mrs. Oleson more sympathetic by the end and how she ended up treating Eli and took a firmer stand at the end to the prejudiced townsperson at the end.

I can't even imagine Adam's fear of crossing the river in the sling.

The Adam and Mary scenes are so emotional in this one.

Even though this episode was set in the 1860/70s and filmed in the late 1970s, it's hard to accept the blind (no pun intended) racism of Mrs. Oleson and one other of the townsfolk.

Quite heartening in the end, though, when they all make it safely to their new school.

One of the reasons I liked this episode is because, any one where someone gets the best of Harriet Oleson is a good episode

Adam was almost too wimpy in this episode....................

"Albert, do you REALLY think you are old enough to know what love is?"
"I must be Pa. I love you, I have for a long time."

I only got to see the second half of this episode, as I didn't record part 1 on COZI-TV, but I love how Harriet thinks that Hester Sue is going to be some high society woman. But the best part to me is how Harriet overcomes her racism. I do think she was racist, even though she looks down on people of any color. But I don't think she would have reacted the same if Hester Sue was a poor white woman as she did when she saw that Hester Sue was a black woman. I love how Harriet befriended little Samson. Would have been nice to see them continue to have a relationship throughout the time the blind school was there in Walnut Grove, in my opinion. That's one bad thing about the character of Harriet.....it seems like she has some significant character growth in an episode, but then later she seems back to her same old tricks. Although she is sort of the "fun to hate" character, I would rather see her change as a human being but still have some relapses to her old self. I think that is how it is with most people in life, that even as we grow, sometimes, especially under stress, we relapse into bad habits or bad parts from our past that maybe we had thought we had overcome.

Little house live on Pluto is my addiction! Just watched blind journey and I’d have to say it’s one of my many favorites. The most satisfying part is when she tells of that hateful devil and Samson reaches up to hold her hand. How on earth could you not get choked up over that? I grew up with this show and I swear it’s one of the very few shows I never get tired of.

Samson was a great character. I think they could have kept the blind school in Walnut Grove and had a couple of recurring blind school kids be more significant characters, like Samson. I don't know if Samson was an orphan or what, but if so, it would have been neat for Hester Sue and Joe Kagan to be married and to adopt him!
