| O.K. This is the story of Damis. He was at school, in band and the class was over. He had set his backpack down in one of the rooms. He was bringing it out of the room when the v-principal came in and told everyone to drop their backpacks and leave the building. The drug dogs were there. Well, he was inside a different room, rummaging around in it for his body spray, and he did not hear her.
When he came out she told him to drop his backpack, which he did. The dog came over and "picked up" a scent on his backpack. They picked it up & there was one of those cigars laying on the floor. So now they are saying that since the cigar was laying UNDERNEATH his backpack, that it was his & it must have fallen out of his backpack. There were no witnesses to see it do this it was just laying on the floor.
As far as the smell on his backpack; he recently bought a vehicle that had been sitting in a man's backyard for a year or so. When we were checking it out David noticed a smell & said it was marajuana. When Damis did decide to buy the car & after we got home, David found a part of a joint in ashtray & we threw it away.
David explained to the officials that Damis leaves his backpack in the car at all times except at school. So the smell of the drugs in the car is on his backpack. Now to this day when I go somewhere in his car, I can smell it. So overall they are saying that Damis was acting "nervous" (heck, I'd be nervous...what 17-yr old kid wouldn't??) and so they are doing the "guilt by association."
Trying to say the cigar was his although I stress it WAS NOT in his backpack...just on the floor. They want to give him 3 days in ISS (in school suspension). David & I went & talked to the v-p & then David talked to Damis & then went back again & talked to the v-p. Bottom line is we know Damis & we know that it was not his.
And I know good & well no matter how he tried to hide it if he smoked, we would know it & be able to smell it on him. And yes, I've looked thru my kid's dresser drawers & I know what is in there. So we will get a verdict today. But David & I stand behind him..we know he is innocent & they are just using him for a scapegoat....looking for someone to pin it on. I'll keep you updated! "I would fight for you - I'd lie for you - walk the wire for you - ya I'd die for you..." | |

| How awful! I'm glad you're sticking up for him. That's one of the most annoying things about some school systems. We're just the dumb parents and we don't know anything. | |

| Wow Misti, I am sorry you guys are having to go through this! I feel badly for Damis being wrongly accused. As much as school officials would like to think we parents have our heads buried in the sand, there are some of us good families out there who do actually know our kids and know what they're capable of...and not capable of. I hope the outcome was good...I'd hate to think of that poor kid sitting in ISS for something he did not do. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Wow Misti. I'm sorry to hear that. Well, at least the two days is better than the three. That just really stinks. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| That's awful how they assume he is guilty. I hope it all turns out well. Spring is finally here, the lovely pink blooms on the "spray" tree outside my window are gone leaving a beautiful willow. | |

| I can't believe it, but at some point you just have to let it go. I'm sorry this happened. | |

| Ugh! I am so sorry that happened. It seems like kids have no rights in these kinds of situations and they are never believed. It seems so unfair. | |
