PostSubject: Last day for Guiding Light   Last day for Guiding Light EmptyFri Sep 18, 2009 11:07 am

I don't know if anyone watches it that's on this board but I have since I was 16-years-old. Today is the final episode and the "wind down" episodes have been both sad but happy with them tying up loose ends. So anyone that does watch this, today is the last episode.

"Rest in Peace, Guiding Light!"

Good-bye Reeva, Josh, the Spaulding's and the Bauer's! Wow, I haven't watched Guiding Light since I was in highschool, but I still remember many of the main characters. Reeva and Josh were the icons! My mom used to watch this soap while I was growing up.

Last day for Guiding Light Empty
PostSubject: Re: Last day for Guiding Light   Last day for Guiding Light EmptyFri Sep 18, 2009 1:24 pm

It's a sad day! I watched in my early teens, and throughout my 20's, when the kids were little. Guiding Light was my favorite of all the CBS soaps---it seemed so 'natural' and down to earth in comparison to the other two, and the acting was superior IMHO too.

My mom still watches it faithfully, and is really sad. SHE has been watching it since she was 16, and she's now 68 years old!! OhMy It's amazing to think she watched it with her mom, and then she and I watched it together. Ah, the good ol days! Thumbsup

Although I no longer watch it, I have been popping it on here and there, once or twice a week, and it's been really neat to see these old faces! I put on the wedding the other day---Lillian to Buzz (I LOVED Buzz---funny character!) and Vanessa and Billy! It's just wild to see everyone again.

So Misti, I really don't know anything as of late with the Josh & Reva storyline.....the last I knew, she really loved her husband but thought he was dead, but he isn't dead, right? So are THEY going to end up together? It just doesn't seem right that Josh & Reva aren't ending up together! What do you think---will they are wont they?

Well, I'm actually arranging for Nick to walk home to his cousin's house after school (right in his bus-stop neighborhood) so that I can watch this uninterrupted. LOL! I'll pick him up afterward....hey, it's Guiding Light! This is historic!!!

There are a lot of articles out there on GL, but this one in particular is wonderfully written, so I thought I'd share:

90 minutes and counting... :sorrow:

Wow! It always amazed me how long English soaps were! lol
Spanish ones only last about 6 to 8 months and then it's on to a new story.

Anyway, girls have fun, this is a huge day I bet! The last day! funny tv

I have to say overall I was impressed with it & I loved the "The End" of the very last frame!

Yes, Reva was married to Jeffery & had a baby, Colin. Either he faked his death or survived the plane crash; I'm not sure which, but he is alive and well & I think he didn't come back, and let the family think he was dead, to protect his family. Buzz & Lillian got married as did Billy & Vanessa. Alan gave bone marrow to a dying Philip but in the end he had a heart attack and died. Fletcher Reade came back & took Alexandra on an around the world trip as did Ed and Holly.

Flash forward and you have Olivia and Natalia together with Olivia's daughter (the father is Philip) and Natalia's baby, Francesca (with Frank Cooper). Frank ended up with Blake Marler. Daisy LaMay (Harley & Dylan's daughter) ended up going to college and with James Spaulding (Philip Spaulding and Beth Raines). Rafe Arturo (son of Natalia & Gus Auturo) came home on leave from the Army.

Moved back to town: Danny & Michelle Santos & their two kids, Jonathan Randall (Reva & Richard Winslow's son) came back to town with his & Lizzie's daughter, Sarah with him & Mindy Lewis moved back, too. In the flash forward Lizzie was very pregnant with her husband, Bill Lewis' child.

In the flash forward Philip & Beth were either remarried or headed that way. Also headed that way was Rick Bauer & Mindy Lewis!

Lastly, in the beginning of the show Josh Lewis went off to Tulsa to work on another part of a project that was done in memory of H.B. Before he left he told Reva that he loved her but he knew she wasn't ready. So he told her that if she felt the same a year from that day meet him at the lighthouse and give him her answer if she wanted to be with him. Flash foward & Josh is at the lighthouse with Reva & her son, Colin. She met him there & told him she wanted to be with him. They climbed into the truck (it used to be H.B.'s) and he asked her if she was ready and she said, "Always." "The End." I am glad they ended up together!

If you have anymore updates you would like, certain people ended up with certain ones, let me know. I kinda went by memory & so I know I didn't get everyone.

Misti, you rock! Applause Thank you for that amazing update! Thumbsup I actually do not even recognize some of these names anymore. I agree, the 'finale' was really done quite well. I could hardly believe when they actually had a 'flash-forward' of Reva & Josh, LOL, but as cheesy as it was, they needed to be together. Had they gotten together in 'this' time period, it wouldn't have made any sense, I'm sure. So it's all good. I actually cried at the end, LOL! So much nostalgia. I called my mom and she was a mess! You could tell it was so hard for many of these actors---the scene with Phillip and Beth was amazing. I love that Rick and Mindy came back! That was so cool. Overall I think they did a really good job wrapping everything up....it's a sad thing to see come to an end, but when practically all scenes have to be filmed outside, you know it's time. It really doesn't look good for a lot of soaps...there is just such a large realm of other tv prospects out there, so it makes sense that viewers are dwindling. I hope these GL actors can find good work...many of them are really good, like Grant and Robert, and of course Kim. I know some of them are acting in theater, but I'm not sure of that brings in decent money. The other guy I think is good is the actor who plays Jonathan---(Keanu lookalike, LOL)...I think he's going places.

I do have one question...where is Harley?! She was my favorite---I was hoping she would have made an appearance.

Oh, and I LOVE the word that they chose to end on: "Always". I remember that being a 'signature' thing for Josh & Reva..."Always, Bud"... Wink It was very appropriate to end on, and I liked the 'old movie' feel of "The End" on the screen in cursive. Very sweet!

I love what the producer said:
"We wanted to be sure we tied up both the characters’ current stories and their history,” she said. “And yet we wanted to leave them in a place where they weren’t finished. We want to let the fans know that, while they may not be able to tune in, the lives of these people in Springfield will continue.”

This is where Michael Landon let the viewers down...he destroyed that set and left us on such an unhappy note. I understand why he didn't want the set being used, but it really was a double edged sword. I couldn't help but think about the Little House finale when I read that in the article.

Yeah, I called Tom that in the beginning because he looked so much like him. Last week I even went to YouTube & looked at some of his old scenes & was blown away again. He is such a great actor. And in the final days when he moved back to Springfield he moved into a house that Tammy's mother, Cassie, had bought for them when they got married but then Tammy died. After he looked at it he was outside with Reva and asked if Cassie would mind him moving into it. After, he broke down & cried in Reva's arms. An interesting note; the other soap I watch, As the World Turns, he was hired there. So in the near future he will make his debut on there as a new character. I am so glad he found a soap home! No info on who he will play or if he will be a bad boy or a good boy! Another piece of interesting news; the original Beth from GL, Judi Evans Luciano, (the only true Beth in my eyes!) is now on ATWT. She was the wife of a kidnapper that kidnapped Holden Snyder. She is helping him escape. She still looks great!

Amy wrote:

After Gus died, Harley hooked up with Marina Cooper's jewelry thief boyfriend, Cyrus. Cyrus came to town and he had a history with Dinah Marler. They were in jail together & had pulled heists together, too. Anyway, Cyrus & Harley messed around on the side until they came out together & broke Marina's heart (she was totally into him; I just didn't see it!). Cyrus moved in w/Harley & got in some financial trouble in which she mortgaged the house to help him out of. She loved him but I know he was using her. In the long run she ended up leaving town with her kids to get away from him. I don't know why she didn't come back for the finale; maybe because both her & Ricky Paul Goldin (Gus) are now on "All My Children" and I think at the end of her time on GL she wasn't really thrilled with the show. Oh, a side note about Cyrus..he left for awhile (I wish he would have been gone forever!) but he came back & he & Buzz did some Jenna Bradshaw Cooper business. Next thing I know it came out that Cyrus was her son! Yuck! At the end of the show he had hooked up & was with Mel Bauer, Rick's ex-wife.

Wow, all these old names! They're actually ringing a bell! Dinah---those were the good ol days, IMO...I loved the Harley & Alan Michael and Dinah and Dillon days. Do I have that right? I think Alan Michael was with Dinah, but he and Harley were the ones that had the chemistry and ended up together. Aaah. The late 80's---in some ways I'm glad they're gone and in other ways I'd really like to go back, LOL!

Thanks for the re-cap Misti---that was so great of you!! I appreciate your taking the time. Some of this stuff I just had no idea about. I'm glad to hear "Jonathan" (or Tom---whoever Reva's son is), is on another soap. And COOL about Judi Evans! I should tune in to ATWT just to see her...you're right, she's the one true Beth! I loved her and Lujack together. Thumbsup Interesting though...I had seen Tina Sloan in an interview Friday morning, and then I saw the 'new' Beth on screen that afternoon, and I couldn't get over how they kind of look similar! They could pass for mother and daughter!

And wow, Harley got into a whole heap of trouble after I stopped watching the show, huh?! She always did seem to find trouble, as I recall, LOL! She's such a great actress---I alway thought she might do more than soaps, but I guess it wasn't in the cards. You know, those other networks just don't hold a candle to the CBS soaps though---I have turned them on for short periods of time and it's all I can take to watch 5 minutes. They are so much more 'fake' than the CBS soaps, IMHO, especailly ATWT and GL. Those two tapped into a real 'believablity' years ago---like I said, more 'down to earth'. The others seem to be too overly dramatic---even Y&R has always been more so that way. ATWT and GL were the only ones I could ever get into.

Was that Dylan or Cameron you were thinking about? I believe Cameron was played by Ian Ziering? I think it was Cameron/Harley & Dinah, A.M. but later on they switched parterns. Not sure about that. You know one thing on there that was a "blast from the past" was at the end Nola (Reardon) Chamberlin & Bridget Reardon came back. I had to wrack my brain & then finally look up the relation with Bridget. She was Matt Reardon's sis & she ended up having a baby with Hart Jessup. I seem to remember he was with Julie Camaletti (?) & Bridget was in love with him. And it was so funny; Nola was talking to Vanessa and they mentioned dresses; a running joke to (I youtubed it!) when they both showed up as Scarlett O'Hara to Nola & Quint's engagement party and they tore each other's dresses up. Remember?

I'm sorry I confused you, Amy. Tom Pelphrey is the actor that played Jonathan Randall, Reva's son, on GL.

This is so fun! If you have anymore questions about characters & what happened to them, just ask. I was just happy to see old favorites return for the ending!

And I can say one thing about a soap that is on, "Bold & the Beautiful." I cannot believe it won best soap on the last awards show. I have never liked it and even if I didn't watch it, the show was always about Brooke & Ridge. I mean how many times can a couple get married? And one thing that irked me was after the tribute to GL all the actors came out on stage and the audience stood and clapped. They panned over to Ronn Moss, who plays Ridge, and he was just standing there. He finally started clapping when he found out the camera was on him. I was thinking, "Man, show a little respect! That could easily be your show ending!" mad

Oh yep, you're right---that was Cameron I was thinking of, Ian Ziering. Hmm, now I can't remember who Dillon is. Oh, and Nola was on recently?! Cool! And LOL, I totally remember that dress scene between Nola & Vanessa!! Aaaaahhh, the good ol days!! Too bad so many of the GL Youtube vids are such crappy quality. I think they need to do a re-cap dvd set, highlighting all the greatest moments! Wouldn't that be cool?!

That would be totally cool! :woohooo: The few clips I saw the other day was poor quality but they had the first time Philip/Beth met in the hospital, prom, stuff like that.

Dylan was a guy by the name of Morgan England and he was tall & blond headed. He was back for the final episode.

Yeah, and it was funny when Nola/Vanessa made reference to that, jokingly! Nola did ask Vanessa if she was welcome at her wedding & Nola assured her she was.

Hmm, this has me really curious. I know the name Dylan---was he from the mid 80's then, like the Harley & Alan Michael? I totally missed him in the final episode, that's for sure. Who was his storyline with? (or maybe you said that already...I'll have to go back and look---I'm on information overload! Wink ).

The only Dylan I know is the son of (who else?) Reva Shane and Billy Lewis. Dylan had a child, Daisy, with Harley Cooper.

If you go to soapcentral.com and go to GL, you can go to the character profiles. It is amazing all the info they have in there. The Dylan I remember was played by Morgan Englund but the pic they have on the profile was the last one, Brian Gaskill. Neat piece of trivial. Morgan Englund (Dylan Shayne Lewis) is the son of Cloris Leachman!

Yep, that's the one I'm thinking of! I knew I recognized the name, but couldn't picture him or how he was related to anyone!

I'll have to check out that character background thing....I found this when I did a search on Morgan Englund:

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.simnet.is/addip/dylan1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.simnet.is/addip/gallery2.htm&usg=__H3Q34-PMkHEEivn22j5s7VgLieQ=&h=238&w=148&sz=6&hl=en&start=9&tbnid=Ob_prk4dmUEGTM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=68&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmorgan%2Benglund%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

Pretty neat...sure does bring back memories! Oh my goodness, I'd forgotten all about "India"! I still remember her voice! OhMy
