My Mother-in-Law

Please say a prayer for my mother-in-law who is 91 and has been in hospital for the last 2 weeks. Up until about 8 weeks ago she was so independent, living on her own and able to do whatever needed doing. Then suddenly she lost some of the power in her legs, developed fluid on the lung and kidney problems. She came to stay with us before Christmas as we have a downstairs bedroom and bathroom and I didn't want her going into residential care. She certainly wasn't the woman she was and even though it was quite stressful, we were all managing relatively well. But she became ill again a few weeks ago and has been on a downhill spiral ever since. Her son came home from US on Tuesday and her daughter from Australia yesterday because the consultant in the hospital has said she will continue to deteriorate and they wanted to be here. She's not in any pain but it's so difficult to watch someone who has been so independent for so long just basically wasting away. Her family are all wishing for a speedy end as they don't want to see her suffer. It's very stressful for everyone as it's difficult trying to go on with the normal day to day things while knowing what lies ahead.

I'm sorry to hear of all your mother-in-law is going through. It is very difficult to watch someone's health deteriorate like that. I know this is difficult for all of you too. Your mother-in-law, and all of you, are in my prayers.

My mother-in-law passed away last Thursday after a steady downward spiral since November. My husband is one of 10 - 9 now as his younger brother died at the age of 26 back in 1992 - and I would ask for your prayers to help the family get through their grief at this sad time. Although their mum's death was expected it's still a great shock when it happens. The funeral was held on Monday and everyone is both mentally and physically exhausted. Now that reality has hit, it's going to be a difficult time for everyone and I know your prayers will help us all get through it.

I'm sorry to hear about this Maureen. I agree, even when you know it will happen, there is no way to prepare for it. We'll definitely be lifting the family up in prayer.

Thanks everyone. I know your prayers will help not only me but all the family. My daughter Christine is finding it especially hard. She was very close to her Grandmother and at 17 it's the first time she's experienced the death of a family member and known what it's all about.
