My mother-in-law AND my dad Empty
PostSubject: My mother-in-law AND my dad   My mother-in-law AND my dad EmptyMon Feb 20, 2012 10:49 pm

Ugh. All in one day. I get a call from my father-in-law this morning letting us know that Tim's mom is in the the hospital. They think she may have diverticulitis. It sounds like she will be there for a few days at least until they know for sure what is going on, and how to treat her.

Then, I got a call from my brother this evening asking if I could come and spend the night with my dad because he is not feeling well. Apparently, he vomited (sorry for the details), and then he went in the kitchen to take some medicine and thankfully, my brother was there. My dad said he started to feel dizzy, and then my brother said my dad had this strange look in his eyes, and then he started to sway. My brother grabbed his arm, but he couldn't get enough of a hold on him, and my dad fell down 2 stairs, onto the landing. There happened to be a garbage bag part full of trash that cushioned his fall. Not the best thing to land on, but at least he doesn't appear to haven been hurt. So, I am staying the night here just in case he gets up and has a dizzy spell again. That scares me. I remember this happening once before when my mom was still alive. Thankfully, I happened to be here when it happened because he blacked out and fell that time too. So, I stayed the night that time too, and took care of them both. My brother will be back after he gets off of work in the morning, hopefully after an uneventful night.

Please keep Tim's mom, Pat, and my dad, Gary, in your prayers. Hopefully they will both be better soon.

Thanks all. I'm still here with my dad. He got sick a couple more times in the night, but hasn't gotten off the couch yet. My brother is here, but I want to stay until my dad tries to get up to make sure he doesn't have a dizzy spell again.

I was going to go with Tim later to see his mom, but I think that's a bad idea. I don't know if my dad has something viral, food poisoning, or what. It's not worth the risk of possibly exposing her when she is already not well. Blue

Those two are lucky to have you and Tim so willing to care for them. I hope this is a quick something that will get them both up and running in no time. Keep us updated.

Tim and I have been updating our parents status updates via telephone to each other. How crazy.

Tim's mom may be coming home today. They have definitely diagnosed her with diverticulitis. She will be on a mush diet for the next two weeks. Which, understandably, she is not overjoyed about. Then, she will be on a mainly high carbohydrate diet. No fresh fruits or vegetables, and I'm not sure what else. I'm hoping it's just temporary until they can weed out what foods bother her and what don't. She is not happy about that either. My grandma had diverticulitis but she was able to eat fruits and vegetables, but she had to watch for things with seeds and avoid eating the seeds. Maybe this diet will give her time to heal before she tries other things. She wants to take some time to rest up though, and said maybe we can visit her at her house this weekend. But, Tim said she sounded a lot better over the phone. So, that is good.

I'm at home for now. My dad thinks he got sick from some bad shrimp he had recently. He said his stomach was feeling better, and that he felt weak, but not the dizzy feeling when he got up. I'm going to go back and check up on him later because even though he said he would call, I'm not so sure that he will! He's only a couple miles away, so a quick, easy drive. At least the kids were off of school today for winter break so I didn't have to rush off in the morning to get them off to school. Sometimes things have a way of working out.

Thanks again for the prayers.

Thanks, Gin. I was getting a little worried this morning when my co-worker called saying she would be late because she had a flat tire and had to wait for AAA to come out to help her. The other teacher had no car because her's is in the shop, so I couldn't call her to come in until the assistant got there, and it's only the 3 of us who work at the preschool, which is just a small building at one of our local parks. I was beginning to wonder who I made mad to have such a streak of bad luck. But, it all turned out okay. There were only 7 children today, and one of the parents stayed until my co-worker showed up. So, it was all fine. And, nothing in comparison to worrying about our folks. They are both doing better, so I think all will be calm now. Off to go knock on some wood.

Sorry for being late in my answer my dear. My nephews were home today (and tomorrow they'll be here too), so I couldn't read your messages until today.

I'msure your mother in law will be O.K. I have a great aunt with diverticulitis and with a good diet she is doing nicely.

I'll keep praying for your father, tough. Are you sure he got intoxcicated or he could be suffering from another sickness? Smiley Hug

Yes, I think my mother-in-law will be just fine. My grandma had diverticulitis and as long as she watched what she ate, she was okay.

No, I'm sure my dad wasn't intoxicated. laugh3 He's not really a drinker, but that made me laugh. He thought it may have been food poisoning, but I'm thinking it must have been some kind of 24 hour bug because I hear my brother is now feeling sick. My dad was doing much better when I talked to him yesterday. He said he was feeling pretty much himself and was getting ready to go run some errands and get something to eat. The dr. has been monitoring his sugar. So, I wonder if a sugar problem could have been further complicated by whatever kind of bug he had, causing him to feel dizzy and black out. He is supposed to go see the doc next week. I'm sure he will mention the incident to him then.

Glad they are both improving, Pam. The stomach bug has been going around here like crazy lately. My Lil Diva and the hubby had it. Kids at both my daughters' schools were out much of last week, and the Lil Diva's friend has been sick all of this week.

Haha...I mistook a word for another. In Spanish we can say that one is intoxicated when this person ate poisoned food, or a poison or alcohol. The word intoxicated is not only for people who drinks alcohol... laugh3 ROTFL

I'm glad that your father is slowly recovering. Hope your brother could feel better, tough.

I'm going to my dad's to clean. I'm going to wear a mask and glove up. Laughing My brother got sick too, so I'd say it was definitely some kind of virus.

I washed my hands so many times yesterday, they are practically raw. The other day when I was there I disinfected everything I could think of. I sure don't want to get sick, and especially give it to the family, or risk spreading it to my preschool class since a lot of times they say you can be contagious even before symptoms start. I think working with the preschoolers helps me to become immune since I am probably exposed to 20,000 viruses every season. Watch. Now that I say that my next post will be that I am sick too. Yikes
