I have found Heidi!!!!
Heidi is a series that started in 1974 and it became popular around the world but for some reason, not here in the US of A. It is a crime that the Americans are the only ones that have not seen this wonderful children series. I've always searched for the DVDs but could never find them and the ones that had them in a certain language cost around $350 to $400! Geez! lol
Well.... last Sunday, I went to this Latino Market to buy some corn tamales and lo and behold... my eyes did a double take when I saw a Heidi DVD hanging on the movie rack! So... I hurried on over to the movie rack and on the way tripped over a box of bananas and went flying across the floor... *shakes shoulders and laughs* "Classic Peg!"
I'm just kidding, that didn't happen... I DID see the movie and I grabbed it! It was volume 2 but I just ordered volume 1 & 3 from Amazon. It is a Hispanic Import so it's in Spanish. These series define my childhood in El Salvador! lol I had my own small dinner table and every afternoon when Heidi came on, I'd position the table and chair in front of the TV, my mom or cousin would prepare me a small soup or sandwich or snack to eat while I sat wide eyed, staring at Heidi. It was the highlight of the day at times lol Now I relive those moments by watching the entire 52 episodes series again!
The series never made it to the US but there was a movie made and you can watch it on Youtube! Although because the series was 52 episodes and the movie is 90 minutes, you miss quite a lot and seems very fast paced. I like seeing in Spanish a lot better as they are the voices of remember. Heidi sounds more younger in Spanish and the conversations feel more heartfelt or romantic or full of flavor in Spanish... English sounds too fast at times for some reason lol. Below is part 1 of the English dub movie and part 1 of the Spanish version I watched which was the Castilian dialect from Spain.
Anyway... I am quite the happy girl!

Ah, I'm so happy for you, Carol! I know how much you love that series! I remember when you posted clips of it before, and I always thought it would be a fun series to watch. It's great to find those movies/shows that we loved when we were growing up!

Well I finally finished watching Heidi... it took a while because it has a total of just over 50 episodes.... but wow.... what a beautiful series that is!
Even though it was an animated cartoon, some of the episodes were emotional and I would bawl as well! lol
For example, there is the episode when Clara goes to the Alps for the first time and Heidi & Peter take her to this "Field of Flowers" up in the mountains. Peter carried her on his back and they arrived at the field where they just look so happy!
Clara is amazed at the beauty around her...
Soon it is time to eat and Peter is so funny.... he has this habit of flopping himself under a goat and get his fill of milk
Clara of course... being brought up with ladylike manners... is a little surprised by this..... LOL
When they head back.... Peter is having a hard time coming down the mountain with Clara on his back... and poor Clara feels so bad
When they get to the Grandfather's house... Clara starts crying because she feels so bad for making Peter almost pass out and tells the Grandfather that she feels like she's a burden to her friends. She says she doesn't deserve their love. The Grandfather feels bad at seeing Clara this way and gets an idea that she should go read to Peter's grandmother who is blind.
Peter's Grandmother loves to hear the Psalms and so she is delighted that Clara is reading to her.
The Grandmother is so happy and gives thanks to Clara. Clara begins to cry because for the first time in her life, she feels useful... like she can really make a difference in someone's life, even though she's not able to walk.
It's such a wonderful episode and so full of emotions!
