We sang "The Hallelujah Chorus" when I was in high school and I remember our choir teacher telling us to watch the reaction to the audience.....she said that when this song was first sung, the King was SO impressed with it, he stood up....and she said ever since then, you are to stand when it is sung.....when we sang it, the audience did indeed stand up....I was waiting for these people to do so, but sadly, they did not......but what an IMPRESSIVE SONG and WONDERFUL SINGERS!!!

I think the thing that shocked me the most is that they are singing a religious song in a public mall. It is such a lovely song. I couldn't believe that first man's voice.

I've never seen a flash mob like the supermarket one. It's funny how some of the shoppers didn't even seem to notice; they just pushed their carts along.
I think it's funny in the Hallelujah Chorus one that the girl on the cell phone who starts it keeps the phone to her ear the whole time--even after it's obvious she's not on the phone! That song sounds great in the mall.

I've sung it a few times too Rhonda and no one has EVER stood up for it either.....that's a shame. I LOVE to sing this song and it was all I could do not to sing along.

I agree---I was surprised by that too! It's not like they were singing Frosty the Snowman! Pretty cool really. What was really neat was the childrens' faces.
Seriously Cheryl, thank you for posting this....it put a huge smile on my face on what is already a wonderful day.

Oh, did she really?! I didn't notice that. Guess I'll just have to watch it again!

Wow. If I lived in a big enough city I would definitely get some friends together and do something like that. It looks as though there were only six or seven people originally singing.
I sang in a choir for quite a number of years and sang The Hallelujah Chorus several times. The people stood up each time... but the director's encouraging the people to stand may have played in. ;)

Those are great! When I was 19, I was in a choir that did The Hallelujah Chorus, and it's still one of my "golden memories".
Prairie Dweller, it might be even more surprising to do something like that in a smaller town.

I've seen that before too Rhonda, but gosh it was so much fun watching it again! What's unbelieveable about that one is how 'together' everyone is so coordinated with the dance movements....I am guessing they all practiced this alone and hadn't really rehearsed this together? I don't know, but they sure were precise!
