Prayers for my mom please...

My mom is going in this morning for a biopsy on a tumor they found on her thyroid. As many of you know she does have Alzheimers and it's very difficult for her, coping with anything like this. If you could pray that she does ok this morning and that the tumor is benign, I would appreciate it.

The procedure went well...she was a trooper. But apparently we won't know anything until March 13th. Please continue to pray. Thanks!

March 13th! I hate how long it takes for test results to come back. Well, I'm glad that the procedure went well - and this gives us eleven days to pray for the best news possible!

I know, that's exactly what I thought! I couldn't believe it...my dad actually said originally the appointment date was set of for April! So I guess we're lucky. Honestly, I had no idea it would take this long. The doctor said he doesn't like discussing test results over the phone though. Well, I get that, if it's bad news, but what if it's not? I would hope they'd at least call to let us know it's good news, if it is.

My doctor that removed my right kidney that had cancer in it did not give results over the phone. When I went to my appointment for the results, I brought my whole family with me, I was so scared. The relief I felt when he told me it was ALL out.

So good or bad, they want to see you.

Well, it's good news, not great news. The results were inconclusive, because they did not get enough cells during the biopsy. But the specialist said that he is 80-90% certain that it's not cancer. Rather than putting my mom through another biopsy right now, he suggested they wait 6 months. She has been through just too much lately. He said that even if it was cancerous (which he doesn't think it is), it is not likely to spread, and that the thyroid is the best place to get at it, should they discover that she does have it in 6 months.

So, not exactly the definitive news I was hoping for, but still good news. Thanks for your prayers.

How did your Mom take the news, Amy? Is she okay with waiting six months?

I'm sorry that the results weren't more conclusive - but at least it's basically good news. They're highly trained to spot cancer, so if they even had the slightest idea that there might be cancer cells there, they'd be sending her back for another biopsy.

I thought she might actually want to get right back in there to have another one done (since she seemed so determined last time), but she and my dad both jumped right on the doctor's suggestion to wait. I think you're right...at least I hope you're right, that the doctor would insist on another one immediately if he had any real doubts.
