I'm leaving on Friday for a family vacation in Kentucky & Tennessee. We have never been to this area before. We will be in Louisville, Cave City & Pigeon Forge (Smoky Mountains) areas. I don't know if anyone here lives around these places or has been there in the past but I would love some suggestions.
Thanks

My hubby and I took our honeymoon in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. YOU will love it. If you take a hike...(its a like a nice man made path) up to Clingmans Dome you can see 4 states from the top. Actually...it looks "smokey" thus the name Smokey Mts. If you are pushing a stroller you might want to be prepared its a little steep, but not bad. BEAUTIFUL place to take photos along the way. I'll post some photos we took ....22 yrs ago! WOW. There is so much to do....its almost like Branson if you've been there before.

This is just why I asked! I have looked and looked at things to do in the area & never ran across anything for Clingmans Dome. It looks very cool will add that to the list of things to do. Thank You Gin

Sec photo is along the hike up. We got tired and had to take a break. WIMPS and we were so young too! Clay was 26 and I was 19!!
Third is me at the top of Clingmans Dome. See how smokey it looks?? It was in the afternoon but that is what it looked like. It may look clearer but we didn't see it.
Fourth and fifth photos were taken in Gatlinburg. The candy shop was awesome! I ate taffy til I was almost sick!! They give samples!!!
Now if the hike kills you I'm sorry...it was good 22 yrs ago! lol

Gin, you two were such a cute couple---still are! So ironic that you and I are spaced exactly the same with our hubbies (age difference) and we've both been married 22 years!
My sister in law went to the Smokies about 5 years ago and told us it's a trip we simply MUST make. So it's definitely on the list of things I want to see. The series "Christy" was filmed in the Smokey Mountains, and after seeing that it made me want to go all the more.
Thanks for sharing your pics with us, Gin! Kamberly, I hope you have a wonderful time! Take lots of pics!

Yes, Rob Clay had hair. It was actually as blond as Nathan's back when he was in High School! Madison has more my color. I was so skinny...makes me sad.
We had SUCH a good time here. NOT just because it was our honeymoon either. lol We both love the mountains and nature. We rented a chalet and feed speghetti to fox off the back deck. We took a drive over into North Carolina and had a picnic beside a clear pure stream. It was so wonderful to just be away from PEOPLE! You could go into Pigeon Forge and shop or go on a 30 min Helicopter ride over the mountains. Clay was not for that, but I wanted to SO bad. We opted for horseback riding instead. I think Clay wishes he went on the helicopter though. Horses scare him to death.
Kim hope you have a great time. Oh, there is wax museums and an Elvis museum if you want to see some of his things close up. I took pictures..but not sure they still let you.
Amy, your 22nd was in June right? Ours will be in Sept.

That sounds wonderful. But come to think of it if Bill had to do without his electronics for more than 48 hours he'd lapse into catatonic schizophrenia.

Personally I'd keep my feet firmly planted on the ground.

My husband and I went to Lookout Mountain on our honeymoon. We rode in a tram up the side of the mountain. They had huge boulders that you could walk around, like a maze. They also had a building that had little scenes with electronic gnomes, trains and coal cars that moved behind a glass window. There was an area where you could see seven states. It was amazing.
I would have loved to go to Pigeon Forge, but we had a wonderful time on a dinner river boat cruise on the Mississippi.
I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. The Smoke Mountains are gorgeous!
Spring is finally here, the lovely pink blooms on the "spray" tree outside my window are gone leaving a beautiful willow.
Yahooo! Glad everything went well. THATS Clingman's Dome?? They have really cleared out the trees! It is a bit of a hike...warned you. What else did you do?

We spent 2 nights in Louisville KY for the 42nd International Association of Jim Beam Bottle and Specialties Clubs & Headvases convention (my parents wanted to do that) We also went to the zoo in Louisville.
Then we went to Cave City KY & Dinosaur World
We spent 3 nights in a cabin in Sevierville, TN. We went to Dollywood & shopping in Gatlinburg (which was swamped!) my son got to meet the mermaid at the Ripley's Aquarium. He really liked her. We went to Clingman's Dome & I LOVED the Smoky Mountains they are so beautiful.

I would suggest you not go in July Gin! When I booked this I found out July & October are the busy months (but I couldn't change my dates) Here are some pictures of Gatlinburg on a Tuesday morning about 11 am. It was CRAZY

I wish I could give you some suggestions, but the only thing I remember about Tennessee was getting lost driving thru! Lol!

I want to go even more now!! But yep, I think I'll opt not to go in July!
Loved all your pictures, especially the ones of the mountains. Thank you for sharing those with us Kamberly!! I'm glad you had such a great time! By the way, your little boy is an absolute doll!
And, I can't resist. My two favorite versions of "Smokey Mountain Memories"
This one by Dolly Parton totally makes me cry. NO ONE tells a story like Dolly:
And David Archuletta's version from American Idol....love his version too.
