| Julia I understood completely when you said that you wanted to better yourself and that's why you want to start exercising more. Recently I also have been trying to exercise more, and it does make me feel good after I have.
The one time I have been to Georgia was in August, and it was very hot, especially since I'm from the northeast and not used to temperatures that are quite that warm! But when it comes to bicycle riding and walking/running, maybe a treadmill or a stationery bike would work? My family has both in our basement, and I use the stationery bike during the winter to try and keep in shape so I'll be able to make it around the block I live on when I'm able to start riding outside again in the spring.
Another method of exercise I have tried was using a workout dvd. I did feel a bit silly at first trying to keep up with the person on the dvd, but the different dvd's I've tried have had simple but effective workouts.
Good luck with finding an exercise plan that works for you! I am trying to do the same thing for myself, and I know it can be difficult but there are a lot of options to try to find a method that you are happy with.

I am glad you understand what I mean then when I say Georgia's Summers are quite warm! (Understatement, for sure)! My problem is that we have no treadmill or anything like that & currently cannot afford one. I got to thinking after I made this post though, if maybe I took my outdoor workout time in fifteen or thirty minute increments, coming in for a cool off, pacing myself, it might not be so bad. Also, you sweat more, which is good for the body as long as you don't get dehydrated & drink something to replenish what you lost. I am glad you too are trying to better yourself. It feels wonderful...sometimes...but the pain & effort will be worth it in the end result. | Summer is terrible here in Missouri, a/k/a/ "Misery" and I know exactly why.....Anyway, I ride my bike, a LOT and when the humidity and heat gets bad, I get up early in the morning and ride my miles then, or wait till the sun has gone down in the evenings. I make sure I drink at least 8 oz of water before I even leave for my ride, and have my Camelbak strapped on my back for my ride. If you live close to the mall, I know there are a lot of people there walking...they are called the "Mall Walkers" and they walk several laps around the mall and get in many miles that way. So, make sure you have good walking shoes and strap your tunes to your ears and start walking...... CANCER FREE!!! April 9, 1998-April 9, 2023-I AM A SURVIVOR!!!

| Good suggestions Rhonda a lot of times during the summer, or even during the winter if there isn't a lot of snow piled up on the sides of the road, I'll go for a walk with my dad after dark. We live in a sort of rural area on a quiet road, so it is safe for us and we just wear bright clothing and carry flashlights. Julia, I think breaking your workouts up into a couple of shorter workouts a day is a good idea too. Sometimes if I do that, I'll find I can work a bit harder and get a bit more done after the break. | |
