When my sister and I were kids, we believed that dragonflies - or "darning needles," as they were sometimes called - would sew your mouth shut if they got the chance. If we were in the woods and spotted a dragonfly, we'd stand there with our hands over our mouths till it went away. Whistle

It never occurred to us to wonder exactly why they'd want to sew people's mouths shut. :shy:

Do they hire out, Rob? I'm thinking of a few people, specifically, who could use their services. batEyes

My mother-in-law is SO superstitious it's unbelievable! I'm not, in the slightest and sometimes I do things deliberately to wind her up! I know I'm evil but I never pretended I was an angel!

My husband's niece wanted to get married in May a couple of years ago and M-I-L said she couldn't because

"Marry in May and rue the day."

If I'd known that I'd have got married in May just to annnoy her.

We bought a green car a couple of years ago and she freaked out. Apparently all things green are bad luck! She threw holy water round it to 'bless' it. She also put a piece of wood in it 'to ward off evil spirits!'

banghead

The black middle of a wooley bear catapillar predicts how the winter will be. The thicker the black middle the colder the winter.

You should always carry an acorn with you for luck.

If the first butterfly you see in the year is white, you will have good luck all year.

A cricket in the house brings good luck.

Spring is finally here, the lovely pink blooms on the "spray" tree outside my window are gone leaving a beautiful willow.

Then I should have lots of good luck right now. About a month ago, we where going fishing, and the cricket basket was on the washing machine. When it started doing to spin cycle, it knocked the cricket basket off. We had crickets all over the house!

ROTFL I love crickets. I had one in our family room for a month or so keeping me company. My kids are all scared silly by them. They look around on the floor whenever they come into the room. :haha:

How funny, Misti!

I forgot about another superstition that my Grandma is obsessive about: NEVER OPEN AN UMBRELLA IN THE HOUSE! She was very adamant about that when I was a little girl, and always said that it meant a death would soon take place in the family if one was opened in the house.

OMG, funniest post ever!! ROTFL Your MIL is, ahem, interesting! :haha:

My boys always believed they had to hold their breath when we drove by a cemetary. Although I'm not sure why. Whistle

Has anyone said, "Don't step on a crack or you'll break your mama's back?" grinsmiley

Never bet me on something.
