It's -8 here this morning, but at least it looks like the snow has stopped. We must've gotten close to a foot since yesterday morning.

It's 14 (above zero!! ) here, and we got around 8" of new snow. The snow has stopped now. The roads are a sheet of ice, though!

We have about a 1 inch of snow on the ground now. :crySC: And it's still coming down.

*sigh* So much for a heatwave. It's -5 this morning, with gusty winds. Which means that our northernmost neighbors probably have it worse!

it snowed here most of the day yesterday, and a little last night. I've already had two snow days from school, and even though we have to make them up at the end of the school year, I always like more of them!

It's beautiful here, but cold. It's currently -15, which is six degrees colder than when I got up at 6:30!

Wow. It was supposed to get down to -5, but we ended up getting down to -12. It's up to -10 now. No delays for the school children. We had a woman die not too far from here from exposure to the cold yesterday, and her husband is in the hospital....but the school officials aren't even giving the children a delay. The poor little souls.

Oh my goodness, Savannah. Was she a homeless woman? That is so awful. And you won't even believe the excuse our superintendent gave for not giving a day off last Friday, when ALL the other districts around did. He wrote this LONG letter explaining his stance, trying to justify his position, saying that some other schools had half days and therefore wanted the 4 day weekend. Also that they look at how high the temps will go up...well, WHY??? What matters is that kids are out there walking or busing as early as 6:00am!! That's the only time they should be looking at, as far as I'm concerned. Who cares how warm it is by 9:00am?! Not one apology was made, only defense of his position. It's obvious he got a ton of phone calls and emails (mine included!) and felt the need to defend himself. Good grief, when EVERY other school closes, staying open is just plain silly!

No, she wasn't a homeless woman. She and her husband were elderly, and their car got stuck in their driveway when they came home from shopping Monday night around 7:00 or so. (They lived in the country.) Something happened, and they both fell as they tried to make it to the house. Neither one of them was able to get back to their feet after falling. The husband was dressed for the weather, with a heavy coat and boots....But the wife was wearing just a light jacket, because she wasn't expecting to be outdoors for long. They weren't found until Tuesday afternoon, and by then, she had passed away.
Your superintendent sounds about like ours. It makes me furious that they make those children go through that when I know that if the superintendent was made to stand out in the cold waiting for a bus to work, he'd absolutely call for at LEAST a delay.

It's 4.5° here. (You know it's kinda chilly out when the weather people figure that including that half a degree will make people feel like it's warmer. :Hahaha: )

I had forgotten to check back here to see your response about that couple. That is about as SAD as it gets. Just think if they lived in a community, she would probably still be alive right now. And the poor husband, to think how helpless he must have felt not being able to help her, and now the inevitable 'survivor's guilt' he must be going through. Just a horrible tragedy indeed.
