Professional hoofer Maksim Chmerkovskiy didn't recognize his own celebrity partner, actress Melissa Gilbert.

"The first time we met -- it's a funny story now. I just don't want to offend anybody," ballroom's bad boy said during an interview on "Good Day LA." "When she walked in and we said, 'Hi' … she goes, 'Oh my god, it's you!' and I go, 'Oh my god, it's … uh, you ...' And for the next two and a half minutes I really tried to play this whole out-of-respect thing, and I had no clue who she was -- zero."

Of course, most of us who are familiar with Gilbert came to know her for her role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on "Little House on the Prairie." While the show aired in the '70s and '80s, its continued syndication internationally means that Chmerkovskiy can't use the fact that he only came to America from the Ukraine in 1994 as an excuse.

Well, one thing is for sure: He knows who Gilbert is now. And between his daily rehearsals with her and a special gift she gave him, he'll never forget.

"Since we met, she actually gifted me with an entire collection of the show ('Little House on the Prairie')," he revealed.

oh..whew....I was worried about that gift. lol


I think its funny they aren't told who they are with...keeps it fun.

I wonder if they will do a" running down the hill in braids" into one of their routines?

I bet Urkel will have those pants on at some point.

I have to say there are probably a gazillion guys out there who wouldn't know who she is....unless their moms were really into the show! All I know is, my own sons wouldn't know who the heck she is either if not for having Little House shoved down their throats as kids!


And oh my, I am trying to picture Maks sitting around watching dvds of Little House....definitely not seeing it.

I think Melissa did well, but boy the competition is tough this year. A LOT of talent shining from the first night!!

NO! I was sorry Melissa got the 6... I guess Maks is tall and maybe that why Melissa had one huge heels. She is only 5'3. She's bends well, tho. I would snap in to!

I was very impressed with Jaleel White's performance. He was tied for first with two 9's and an 8.

Melissa should of got higher marks.

I don't mean to be mean or anything when i say this. But that hot dude that all the girls were going crazy over. I think he will remain on show Cause of his looks NOT cause of his dancing. That's just what i think. If i was american i could call and vote for Melissa

IMDB.com says that she is 5'4".......I wish our city/state hadn't done a realignment of the channels, because they took away the channel that had American Idol and DWTS on.....

Has anyone ever voted before? I haven't but I would for Melissa. Do you just text in her number? I noticed she didn't get alot of camera time either when she was off the floor.
They showed Dakota and Michael in the audiance. Glad she had them there for her.
I just hope she and Maks can not butt heads. They are both headstrong people.
