I need a favour. Can someone in the Downton Abbey US Fan Group on fb please invite me back into the group. You have to be my friend on fb and just type my name in the box on the right side just under the picture. I left the group but am thinking that maybe I shouldn't have. Amy? Lisa? Thanks.

I left the group because it wasn't being used. But the files have the Downton shows link so I hope to get back into the group. I haven't been added yet so I sent a message. About a week ago people were talking about the new shows on PBS and the administrators were sending them to the discussion page. But when they discussed the show there, people who had seen the whole series were giving spoilers. It drove me batty. The US Fan group should be the place for US viewers to chat about the shows without spoilers but they wouldn't allow discussion on the US page. It drove me bonkers and in haste, I left the group. But I have "cooled off" (well maybe not, lol) now so I would like to rejoin the group. Just type my name in the box on the right side

I tried adding you Marilyn, just in case it didn't work for Lisa, and it says you're already part of the group, so I'm assuming you're back in!
Ugh, it's such a tough call. I can see why you're saying what you're saying, since it's a U.S. group, but we Americans have SO much access to viewing things ahead of time now---I know there are people out there who are watching it live, but let's face it, this FB downton Group is one of MANY online resources that people 'could' potentially have seen the show already.
When I realized DA season 3 had aired in the UK, I knew there were going to spoilers everywhere....I felt that it was a must to completely isolate myself from the forums until I watched all of it, and if I didn't, then I needed to accept that inevitably I would be spoiled. Since I didn't want to know a thing, I stayed away until I was done watching. I just think with a group as huge as this one on FB it would have been too difficult for them to monitor spoilers....I can't really imagine how they would. And look at the number of fans that are on it that ARE Americans and they have seen it. Seriously, I do get what you're saying Marilyn, and ideally I agree with you, but logically I just think it's impossible to control this mass hysteria, lol! Quite honestly, this is the reason why I did want to watch these ahead of PBS over here this time, once I discovered that I 'could', because I knew that I wouldn't be able to talk about it otherwise!
I'm glad you've come back---I think you really would have missed it. There sure is a lot of interesting input over there!

Oh, I'm in the discussion group but that isn't where the links are. I am referring to the original Downton Abbey US Fan Group page. That is where the links are. If you go to the discussion page and the files section there is a link to the original group. When I click on the link it just goes to the US Fan page, not the group. You LIKE the page but you have to be invited into the group, like the discussion group it is a closed one and only friends on fb and administrators can let you in.
I agree with everything you said above and that is the reason why I decided to watch ahead of time as well. I didn't want to read anything to spoil the show and I knew that staying away would be impossible so I watched as it aired in the UK. But why can't they just make the US group a place where no one gives away the secrets, so that way first time viewers have a spoiler free chat space? Just my thoughts.

Marilyn, are you sure *that's* the one you wanted? It isn't the private, closed group that has the links. That one is just an open fan club, and you don't have to apply to membership - you merely "like" the page. The one I added you to is the closed group that has all of the private links available to watch. I added you, but the mods have to approve you. It may be that they've been too busy to check out new membership requests yet. This is the site I added you to:

That isn't the discussion page, to clarify. It's the "No Spoilers" one.

Yes Lisa, that is the one, thanks for the link. Apparently I have been banned just for asking a question. I am in touch with the mods now so hopefully it can be worked out.

Sounds like they didn't like their policies being questioned, which is pretty lame. What's ridiculous is that they didn't even give you a warning. Unreal. You have a good attitude about it though Marilyn, and at least you're able to be on the other page.

Did they ever acknowledge you, Marilyn? And try to work things out?
And I thought this was interesting - Maggie Smith on The Carol Burnett Show:

No, I'm still banned. Amy sent one of the mods a character reference about me but it did no good. That's ok, I'm in the discussion group, it will do.
