| In some episodes Laura wore a ton of lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, blush.. She looked more 1980's then 1880. She wore it real big and gloopy, I think this is part of why Mellisa never seemed to me a very real Laura Ingalls Wilder. | |

Well, you know what? I guess I would've been more accepting of her "looks" if she didn't have those perfectly cut bangs. I mean, if she could manage that, why couldn't she do something with the rest of her hair?
I'm sure she would have been capable of it, but when someone cuts you down day after day like her father did, and treats you like you're worthless, you begin to believe it yourself if there's never been anybody in your life to tell you anything different. And if she had tried to make herself look nice - even just presentable - her father would have started in on her, calling her horrible names, claiming that she was trying to attract the boys. She was already hearing those vicious things as it was, and would hardly want to risk more of the same. When you live with abuse you do what you have to to survive. As for her perfectly-cut bangs, there really wasn't much that could be done about that. I mean, the actress couldn't really be expected to cut her bangs unevenly for a one-time job. I think they just did the best that they could to try and represent her as a child who basically had nobody to take her under their wing. Personally, I hated the episode. It's one of the few that I do hate. So I haven't seen it in years, and I don't remember anything about makeup or eyeliner - but I do remember how cruel her father was, and how he had already called her horrible names as it was - I can totally see why she wouldn't have done anything to make her hair look any nicer.
Edited to add: Dave!! *gasp* Are you serious?? Is that really her??

| I agree. At first I thought it was Wendie Malick ( Ronnee in Frasier and she was on Just Shoot Me)
Ugh!!!
Ps... someone on the Imdb board keeps on saying her father dated the actress who played Sylvia. She is really dillusional so no one can tell for sure...

I am in shock! For some reason I always thought her eyes were kind of big too...she was SO cute! She had a full face though, which made a big difference. Now that it's thinned out and her eyes have 'narrowed', she looks just completely different. LOL, well I just wrote a bit ago in the 'plastic surgery' thread about how people are too narcissitic, thinking that others actually pick their features apart. And here I am, picking apart this poor woman! Well, I guess it IS different with celebs. Here is the link to her IMDB page, with a full head-on shot of her: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2841229056/nm0000848I'm with you Lisa...this episode was not only too dark for Little House, it freaked me out as a kid! That mask!! And I didn't understand any of it! It was more appropriate as a 'TV movie of the week' than a Little House episode.
