| Well, it says online that it's 0 here, but I just got home a bit ago from dropping my son off at the bus stop and it was -6 according to the thermometer in my van. This arctic air can leave any time now!! Buh bye! I guess here in Michigan the state law is -30 degrees before they have to close schools. Now THAT is cold. Um, how about if it just FEELS like it's -30?!?! Does that count?! :sad5: At least our school is taking delays, but that's actually WORSE for me...my son stays in my car anyway until the bus comes to get him (I have to drive him to the stop---it's not in our neighborhood), and with a delay I have to pack up the daycare, so that's not fun. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| I can imagine, Amy!
I can guarantee you that if the state officials had to wait at a bus stop every day, early in the morning to go to work, like the children do to go to school, that the state law would change VERY quickly. They'd never stand out in -10 or -20 degrees, but they expect children to do that. It makes me furious.

| Yow! We can't compete with -47, but on the news tonight they said that the official temp in a valley eight miles east of where I live was -30. | |

| Today was the coldest it's been in 5 years in Minneapolis. It's even colder up in northern Minnesota. | |

| Teresa, I remember watching the weather when I was a kid, and the coldest spot in the country was almost always International Falls, Minnesota. :Blizzard: | |

| Teresa, I heard it's -40 in Minnesota! :faint2: Well, Savannah, are the schools closed near GR today? Get this, EVERY school district around us and outlying areas are CLOSED, with the exception of MY SON'S school!!! I am in shock. They are usually the FIRST one to call school off because they bus to rural areas. Instead they just called another 2-hour delay. I called the office to tell them my son was NOT coming in, and the secretary said, "He's not the only one", and said the phone has been ringing off the hook. Boy, the superintendent is going to catch some serious grief over this one!! “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Earlier it was -21, with a windchill of -38. We're supposed to get to 6 above this afternoon, and then be in the 20's for the rest of the weekend. By Tuesday it's supposed to be in the 30's. That's going to feel like a heat wave! LOL!! | |

| Oh, I'm sure he's right, Amy. It was actually colder in western Minnesota, than up North. There were some places that had an actual temp of -40. Brrrrrrr........... | |

No! They were open, with no delay, even! The downtown thermometer, and the one outside my window both read -14 and yet they did nothing. Yesterday, one little girl had to walk to school, and when she got there, she was barely responsive. They had to take her to the nurse's office, and wrap her in blankets, and give her something warm to drink to perk the poor baby back up again. It's shameful! Good for you for not sending your son out into that, Amy!

| Geez, I wonder why that little girl's parents let her leave the house! Shame on them, and shame on the superintendant. I mean, come on, more than once I've heard the weather forecasters say, "Conditions are life-threatening." That's serious. Amy, I'm not sure how cold it got here last night. That -30 in the outlying area was on Wednesday night. It was only -1 here when I went to bed last night, and zero this morning. So I don't think we broke any records. The bad news is, the wind has picked up. | |

Exactly! I can't imagine sending a precious little child out into that kind of weather. And all alone?? Krista and I were talking about that, too. If they couldn't drive her to school, they should have kept her home.

| I have a friend who's originally from here, but who lives in Hawaii now. He said he was talking to some native Hawaiians about northern winters, and they were amazed at some of the things we take for granted. For instance, they couldn't believe that we let our cars warm up before we leave in the morning. "You mean you start your car and go back in the house and let it run all by itself??" They thought that was hilarious! Several years ago we had an exchange student here. I forget where he was from, but it was some warm weather climate. He said, "I've heard a lot of stories about the winters here, but one thing I don't believe is that the lakes freeze over and you can walk on them. I'll believe that when I see it." | |

| That's funny, Rob. I'll be starting our van up within the next 15 minutes to let it warm up so that I can take my daughter to the bus stop. It's just right up the street, but in the winter months, it's nice just to wait for the bus in the van. | |
