Five years ago this month, Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Gallaraga was robbed of a perfect game by an umpire's blown call. I remember watching this game, and when the ump made the call...

I remember this well! SUCH an agonizing moment! But Gallaraga was such a great example of good sportsmanship, grace, and forgiveness. He could have really blown up and exploded all over the ump - but he didn't...and he readily accepted the apology that was given to him. What a great guy! He made me especially proud to be a Tigers fan that night!

Oops, I spelled his name wrong. It's Galarraga. But yes, he was a model of sportsmanship in the face of adversity.
