Excellent timing, O Southwest Sage! This just happens to be my town's night to shine, sports-wise. It's the night of our AuSable River Canoe Marathon. More than 80 teams of paddlers will start off at 9 PM and race non-stop through the night, paddling 120 miles from here in Grayling to the shores of Lake Huron. Here's a 2005 promo film about the race...

Thanks, Dave. Yeah, there are some pretty amazing physical specimens taking part in the race. You don't see a lot of body fat on 'em.

Here's the finish of the 2005 race, the closest in the marathon's 65-year history - a winning margin of less than one second!

That's incredible Rob! I could do that! With an outboard motor!

Yeah, that "no outboard motor" rule really cut my marathon career short.

WOW!! What a dramatic finish! It would be cool to hear Ernie Harwell calling the finish of that race. I know he was Mr. Baseball, but somehow, I think he'd have been just as passionate in describing the finish to THAT race!

Do any of like sports??? If you do, we are probably going to be enemies, or friends, in the sports area. Anyways, my favorite sport is baseball, and my favorite team are the Atlanta Braves. My least favorite team are the National. GAAAAAAHHHHH!! I epsecially (how to put it in nice words) umm, dislike Bryce Harper. Such a big show-off. BLECHHH.

I also DON'T like the Dodgers (no offense) because of this year. I can really hold a grudge on teams for a pretty long time.

does anyone else watch hockey? I'm a Boston Bruins fan. I don't know a lot about the sport yet but I'm trying to learn more quickly. Unfortunately we don't have cable at my house so I can't watch most of their games, but I follow updates online.
Usually I'm okay if someone is a fan of a sports team that I don't like, as long as they don't bash my team or rub my team's mistakes in my face. Or (such as during the Bruins game last night), Brad Marchand, who is a player I like, was kneed in the head by a member of the Penguins, and the guy who did it to him hardly acted as if he were sorry. Stuff like that can make me mad too! But I try to be pleasant at least if someone is talking to me about a team or a player I'm not a fan of, even though sometimes it isn't easy!

Sorry, I don't really watch hockey, but rivalries are common in baseball also. For example, the New York Yankees (whom I also dislike) and The Boston Red Sox are big rivals.
