Thought this was interesting!

George, a 2-year-old Basset Hound from South Heindley, West Yorkshire, U.K., was strangled by a phone cord — and miraculously saved his own life by calling 999, the British equivalent of 911, reports The Sun.

George knocked over a heavy-duty, old-fashioned phone in owner Steve Brown’s home; he became tangled in the cord and wound up with it wrapped around his neck. Somehow, George — in the midst of choking — managed to dial 999 with his paw.

The emergency operator heard heavy breathing and gasping on the other end and alerted the authorities, who entered the house with the help of a neighbor, Paul Walker, who had a key.

Walker saw the dog choking and ripped the cord free from the phone to save him.

He told The Sun: "Incredibly you could see where his paw print was on the phone to ring 999 — he literally saved his own life."

Lydia Brown, the daughter of George's owner, expressed equal amazement at the Basset's lifesaving feat, telling The Sun, "He's really dopey and just likes to chew socks."

George isn't sounding quite so dopey now, though.

This has been in the news all day here. This is not too far from me. The fog has been bad all week, with really warm afternoons.

I read a different article about this online earlier. What a terrible thing to have happen on the holiday, but it's great that the people who were uninjured in the wreck were trying to help those who were injured.

I just saw on the news, and then read about it online, that there was a shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut this morning. This tragedy occured only about an hour from where I live. The reporter on the news said that several of the people who were shot were young students at the elementary school. With something like this just happening, I can't help but think, what is wrong with people? Many of the victims were only children. It is hard to understand what would motivate a person to do something like this. My thoughts are with all of those affected by this terrible tragedy.

So sad....as my oldest son, BJ has always said, if the teachers were allowed to conceal and carry, the numbers would be less, because one of them would take the shooter out before he could do anymore damage.....

They're saying 27 dead, at least 18 of whom are children. Unbelievably sad. My prayers go out for the poor families of those who were killed.

I Just read it on the news, So sad and so close to Christmas i can't even think what the parents of the children are going through

It is just so awful...

They are now saying that the shooter's mom worked at the school.....he must've been pretty mad at her to go do this......she is among the dead.

I can't even wrap my head around this. What is going on?!?!

This man was VERY disturbed! He killed his mother at the school, in her classroom, another family member was found dead at the home, and his brother has been taken in for questioning. They don't know if he went there to stop his brother, or if he was part of the plot. If he was part of the plot, I don't see Ryan (the shooter) letting his brother out alive.

I just read that this is the second-worst mass school shooting in history, second to only the Virginia Tech shooting. One of my friends said, "And to think that I thought something like this could never happen in the state I live in." It's scary to know that it can happen.

A terrible tragedy, so sorry for the families; praying.

Seems the shooter was named Adam, NOT Ryan. He is 20 yrs old NOT 24 yrs old. He was carrying his brother's ID. This is just crazy....

I saw someone posting this on their FB feed. Then, reading people's tweets on twitter. So, I read the article. Why did he start shooting all those people? Then, go killed himself. I think, I know, why he killed himself. Easy way out. So, he doesn't go to jail, then death sentence. But, he'll be in eternal hell rest of his life.

Just beyond sad and depressing.How can someone do this?

It's so awful! What could have been the trouble in th heaf of this young man wanting to kill almost all his family and all those innocent children? This man was not only disturbed, but VERY sick. His mind was sick...

I can't even believe the police released that before they knew for sure. Can you imagine turning on the news or computer to find YOUR name as the killer in a massacre??? Although the laptops have been confiscated, Ryan and his dad are not even suspects at this point.

I'd also read earlier that his mom was at the school and she was shot there...that her body was found there. Now come to find out she was at their home. I wish they'd just WAIT before divulging inaccurate information.

Where was the father in this picture? The shooter's dad? (Adam Lanza) Is he dead, alive, don't want nothing to do with his kids.
