| I'm so glad that he turned back, Amy! It's really, really heavy here. We have 14" SO FAR....and it doesn't show any sign of slowing down. We've been getting about 2" an hour. (I honestly didn't think we'd get this much!) I have my camera batteries charging so I can get a picture later. I've been shovelling off and on all morning, but between the snow coming down so fast, and the wind picking up now, it's pretty much impossible to keep up with it. The Superintendent of schools here had said yesterday that there was no way on earth that she was going to call of school today, because she wasn't going to add another day to the Christmas break. (What stupid reasoning!) Thank the Lord she changed her mind, though. I can't imagine having buses full of precious children out on these roads. And thank the Lord, school was cancelled for my children, too, so they aren't out in this. I'm hoping it slows down by mid afternoon, because I have to work! | |

| Savannah, can you get out of going to work, if the weather's too bad? We've gotten maybe 6-8 inches, and I think it's beginning to tail off now. Looks like you downstaters got the worst of it. | |

| Savannah, I can't believe your superintendent!!! The nerve!! That is some seriously ridiculous reasoning. I can't even imagine the number of phone calls, and you KNOW most of those parents wouldn't have sent their kids anyway. Gosh, 14 inches?!?! I'm not sure what we have probably at least 8 by now, but it's just not stopping. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Yeah, that would be a stupid reason not to cancel school, Savannah. I am really glad she changed her mind. We knew even before we went to bed last night that there wouldn't be school today. The superintendant is really good about doing that, and sometimes he takes a lot of heat for it, but he basically goes by the weather reports, and his reasoning is that he wants to give parents as much notice as possible so that they do have time to make other arrangements for childcare. It makes sense to me. But, there have been times it's backfired and school was canceled and we didn't get as much snow as predicted. And that's when parents get angry. It makes sense to me though. Better safe than sorry. One of the worst things is when it snows when they are at school all day, then you have to worry about how to get them home. My car is horrible in the deep snow and I know I would have been stuck if I had to go out today. I'm guessing we got around 9 -10 inches, with a lot of drifting. Cars have been getting stuck in the road in front of my house all day. I heard a car stuck in the snow and looked outside and it was Tim, coming home earlier than expected. So, we got him dug out (and had to dig out the driveway before he could drive in because it was knee deep in the driveway), and then we had to push him to keep him from getting stuck again. While we were getting him out, another car got stuck in the snow, right next to Tim's car, so we pushed them out. And all at the same time, another neighbor a few doors down was stuck in the snow. We finally got Tim in the driveway, then my next-door neighbor got stuck in the snow, so Devin and I helped get him out. I no sooner got in the house when another neighbor was stuck. I know I am going to be sore tomorrow between pushing cars out of the snow and shoveling!! I am supposed to go to celebrate my cousin's graduation tonight, from nursing school, but unless they plow before I have to leave, I am staying right here. I know my car will get stuck in the snow. But then I tell myself all I have to do is get to the end of the street, to the main road, and I'll be good. But then if they still don't plow my street by 2:30 a.m. or so, when I get home, I'll be on my own. I don't think I'll get any of my neighbors to help me out if I do get stuck then. So, I'll just play it safe and sit home. | |

| Saturday morning is when I go out to the garage and get all the cans, plastic, papers, etc., ready to take to the recycler. I'm usually finished by this time, but as I stand at the window and look at the thermometer... well, it can wait. Actually, it's not all that bad. It's cold, but there's no wind at all, and that helps a lot. | |

| :Hahaha: Susie, your current avatar looks like Harriet is horrified by Rob's air temperature. We're not completely plowed out yet. It's AMAZING. You know how small towns are....When the downtown roads are plowed, there's always a HUGE pile of snow down the middle of the road, with a small, narrow path on both sides of it, plowed out for traffic. Well, the pile of snow going down the middle of the road is taller than some of the trucks! And some nut tried to take his vehicle over it!! :Hahaha: Yes, he got stuck. (I know I know . . . I shouldn't laugh. But it was so funny!) The plows are out, however. I haven't seen them, but I've seen the wicked results of their good deeds. I spent three hours yesterday shovelling and digging out the base of the drive. When I went to bed it was CLEAR. This morning, I had to go to the store, and figured "No problem." I went outside, and found that there was literally a pile of snow three and four feet deep at the base of my drive. A MASSIVE pile of it! So, I spent all morning, til just now, digging out the drive. Thank the Lord for my sweeet brother, who also came and helped out. I still love snow, but if that snowplow driver comes anywhere near here, he's living dangerously, that's what! Amy, I'm glad that you're plowed out. Driving in your neck of the woods is difficult enough as it is without throwing unplowed roads into the mix! | |
