| Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!! How terribly sad! His brother is my age. I wouldn't say that it's a sympathy vote, if that's what the media would be calling it. David's too good to even need a sympathy vote. Sanjaya could have used a sympathy vote, but not David. That's wonderful that his brother will be able to be there for him. It will be like a dream come true!! My goodness, I'm tearing up just thinking about it. | |

Yeah, that's what I think too...he certainly doesn't need a sympathy vote, so people saying that are being ridiculous. And this article was older, Teresa...his brother was already in the audience when he sang on Mariah Carey night. Do you remember Ryan asking about it being difficult for him? David alluded to the fact that it'd been a rough week, but didn't mention his brother specifically. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Oh, I vaguely remember that. It probably went right over my head because I wasn't aware of his brother's illness. Did they show him in the audience? | |

| Oh that's sad! David Cook is in the top 2, so if he sings that song... it's not for sympathy... he doesn't need it. I agree... people who are saying that don't know what they're talking about lol David gets sentimental though.... I don't know if he could get through it.... | |

| Oh my, did Paula really critique the 2nd song that Jason hadn't sung yet!?!? Or did she mean David C.? Cuz it seemed like Jason. | |

| I thought Paula had seriously lost her marbles there, but I think she was actually reading ahead in her notes and started critiquing David C. but called it "Jason's second song"! LOL! I thought it was funny that Ryan and Simon & Randy just let her go on and on...I think everyone was just seriously confused! Well, that's Paula for ya! Well, I hate to say this, but Jason has totally let me down. Ugh...my Jason! How could you?! Actually, I thought Forever in Blue Jeans was nice and as I was browsing Neil Diamond on Youtube today, I wondered if Jason might pick that one. But Simon's right----a little 'forgettable'. But his second one....September Morn?!?! I mean, TALK about one of the most BORING songs ever written!! Why??? Why??? Oh WHY????? Simon was SO absolutely right on that Jason was 'unrecognizeable the last couple of weeks. He hasn't gotten it back in a big way since Somewhere over the Rainbow. It's not looking good for him. Ok, Brooke was a nightmare on that first song, I completely (once again!) agree with Simon on that. Why the heck didn't someone tell her she was singing too low, too? All she needed was to raise it up a key. But you know, she's just weird standing like that with the guitar. And I don't like it when she gets all 'cheesy' like that with her smile...it actually made her sound worse during the song which is the last thing she needs. She does that a lot---it's like with her fun songs she tries to 'have fun' during it, but then loses control. Her serious ones are far more controlled and I really enjoyed her "I Said" song. I hate to say it but I think she deserves to stay over Jason just because of that one. Crap. Then there's Syesha...I thought both her songs were excellent and she deserves to stay just for continuing to step it up. Hello Again was beautiful and I didn't understand why Simon thought her last song was forgettable. She did her 'acting' thing with it, plus she's the last one, so I think she'll be fine. So, this brings me to the two Davids....I LOVED David C's second song. I feel like he totally deserves to be the next American Idol, but I honestly don't want him to be it. I hope he goes far and is standing in the number 2 spot, but I think the 'title' is perfect for David Enchilada (stealing from Rob there, sorry! ). I love his voice and I think he'd be the perfect one to do songs that he's 'told' to do. So there ya go....I've officially started voting for David A.!! Sorry Jason!! (Ok, I cannot tell a lie...I DID vote for Jason like 10 times, but that's it, I swear!! ). I'm torn, because it really would be nice to see him another week just to see if he gets back on track. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| Not the greatest of nights for the kids. For me, I think the problem is that Neil Diamond has such a strong, distinctive voice that other singers suffer by comparison when they do his songs. I thought that David Cook was the only one who came close to that Diamond "growl."
I loved Syesha's "Hello Again." She sang it without any of the vocal gymnastics that the girls sometimes do (thank you, Mariah Carey  ), and it worked really well.
As I watched Jason doing "Forever in Bluejeans" (or "For Reverend Bluejeans," as my friend's mom used to think it was called), it occured to me that I could really see him being most successful as a singer-songwriter, doing his own songs rather than anyone else's. (If he writes songs, that is.) He really has a nice voice; not for big "singer" songs, but for introspective, personal ones.
I actually think "September Morn" is a beautiful song (sorry, Amy!), but it just wasn't suited for Jason.
David Enchilada... well, "Sweet Caroline" has never been my favorite Neil song (though did you hear that he recently said he wrote it after seeing a picture of the young Caroline Kennedy?). As for "America," well, once again I found myself comparing his version to Neil's, and Neil has a much stronger voice.
I was kind of disappointed that David Cook didn't do "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother," as someone suggested. But then I remembered that that isn't technically a Neil Diamond song. He sang it, but it's one of the few he did that he didn't write. So it wasn't eligible. | |

| LOL, Amy!!!!!! I'm sorry, but I don't think that Jason can really get back on track. It's almost too late for him. I don't know, he was sooooooo much better earlier on in the competition. Again, the 2 David's were awesome, especially David Cook's second song. Syesha did very well too. Brooke's first song was karaoke at it's worst, and her second song was soooooooooooo much better. She's great when she's at the piano. I just can't wait to hear David Cook sing every week. I love his voice!! He's awesome from the very first note that comes out. | |

I think you're right about that, Rob---'distinct' is definitely the word for Neil's voice...I would say David C. was the only one who could really pull off the 'sound' too. And I agree with you about Syesha and the vocal 'gymnastics'...Simon may think it's 'old fashioned', but maybe a LOT of us prefer this sound over the Carly's and Mariah's....her voice sounded very 'pretty' last night, and I felt it was almost effortless, a feeling a don't think I ever had with Carly. Syesha has improved greatly over the weeks. And I hear ya Teresa on Jason---it is probably his 'turn' to go. But I have to wonder....Syesha has been in the bottom a lot, and I still don't think she has the fan base. Jason's fans may actually pull him through. Oh, and Rob...I guess you're right---"September Morn" really is 'pretty', but I guess I've always found it boring still, even Neil's version. And that's what's ticking me off about Jason....he didn't make a single attempt to change that song from Neil's. If anyone's song was 'old-fashioned' last night, it was Jason's. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| I will summarize my review in two words: JASON CASTRO lol I'm sorry... but I have to say I think I have heard enough of Neil Diamond in my lifetime... lol I didn't really like any of the songs :sad5: When Brooke was singing the first song, all I could think about was Shrek dancing right beside her And her "woooohs" in between verses didn't help much either. Oh Brooke... | |

| I think that even if David Cook wins, he won't let anyone try and change him. He knows who he is as a musician, and he'll do his album HIS way. I think that American Idol likes his sound, and wouldn't want to try and "cheese" him up. Carrie Underwood stayed true to herself, and so will David. He's going to go a long way in this business. Just like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, especially Carrie. If AI were to tell David C. that he has to do a certain song, he'll definitely make it his own. If he were to win, that is. | |

Good points Teresa. I just know that everyone said that Chris Daughtry was so much better off that he didn't win the idol. I think David C. is going to go really far whether he wins this thing or not. David Archuletta probably will too, but who knows? He could be another Clay Aiken too...great for awhile but then fizzling out? I kind of see that happening. Good catch with the A.C. thing, Jacob...I didn't notice that! But I'll bet that's for Adam too. Very cool. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

| The top 4, in my opinion, should have been David C., David A., Jason, and Brooke. I'm sorry, but Syesha is a dime a dozen, just like David Hernandez was who left early on. Brooke should have stayed at least one more week, or two. Next week's show will be awesome! David Cook is going to bring the house down with the rock and roll theme. Can't wait!!!!!!!!! | |
