I watched last night, and am about to start watching again this evening. We Tivo it. I'm disappointed that Simon is leaving, but it's been a nice 9 year run for him. I heard where he's going to be bringing the "X-Factor" here to the US, and may ask Paula Abdul to be a judge with him. Idol may go one more season after this, but I don't think it will last without Simon. I think it's run it's course.

Well, I don't know. Simon's absence might mean a drop in the ratings, but I'm guessing it'll still draw enough viewers to be a big moneymaker for Fox for at least a few years to come.
I've really enjoyed these first two shows! In past years, it seems like the first few audition shows centered on people who knew they couldn't sing, but just wanted to act stupid on national TV. That got old really fast. There hasn't been nearly as much of that this season, so far.

I missed both episodes! Glad to hear it's off to a good start! I'm looking forward to this season, but yeah, I have to think that without Simon this show is going to go down the tubes. I think that first year without him will be a 'curiousity' thing with people, to tune in and see the interaction between the new judges. But most people are waiting with baited breath to hear what Simon's opinion is, and that will be lost. They're talking about Denzel Washington???? I wonder how serious that is, really??? They at least need to have someone in the music business in there, especially now that Ellen is on the team.
I wonder if he is really going to hire Paula for X-Factor? Honestly I think that would be a wise move---she is definitely, ahem, interesting. And people love the Simon/Paula 'relationship'. I will definitely be checking out that show too.

Carol, I was laughing so much when that man started singing that song!
I've watched both episodes so far. I didn't hear that Simon is leaving the show! as much as I don't like him, he is a major part of the show. I hope Randy doesn't leave as well because I think the ratings would really drop if all 3 original judges were gone.

As much as people "love to hate" Simon, I have always liked him. He says what everyone is thinking, but too afraid to say aloud. LOL! He really is a good guy, though. I've seen him in several interviews, and especially enjoyed watching him the last time he was on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

Yes he really is a good guy. I was watching a Susan Boyle (you all remember her right? ) special presentation and it was interesting how Simon looked out for her after she didn't win the show. Susan said she felt so down... but Simon reached out to her and told her that it was not over for her, that he could still help her out and look at where she's at now!

Me too Teresa---he is definitely what makes that whole show for me. I'm always most interested in what he has to say (even if it's harsh---unless he's too harsh with the teens---then I get mad at him ), and I'm not sure audiences are going to go for the new 'feel' of the show without him. There's only one Simon!

I love Susan Boyle! And yeah, she was lucky to have Simon in her corner! She totally didn't need to win that---Simon and youtube took care of that, LOL!

I heard on the radio this morning that they may replace Simon with Elton John. I loved Elton's music and the fact that he is another British guy may have something to do with why they are looking at him.
I haven't watched yet....but I hate the auditions. I like it when they are down to some of the more serious people. The goofballs drive me crazy!!

I'm the same way, Gin. I don't have much patience for the talent-deprived ones who show up in costumes, looking like they wandered over from Let's Make a Deal. They know they can't sing, but they want their fifteen two minutes of fame.
I don't think they've had anybody like that yet, on these first two nights. There have been bad singers, but you could tell that they thought they could sing.

Yesterday one of my three year olds starting singing "Pants on the ground, pants on the ground---lookin' like a fool with the pants on the groundl." ROTFL!! Do you know how funny that was coming out of a preschooler's mouth?! She said she watched the show with her parents. Too cute!
And Nick, my 15 year old, came home last night singing it. Simon was right----this song is a hit! Larry Platte is the next William Hung!!

Is it just me, or did Wednesday night's show have more talent than, ahem, 'non-talent'? I thought it was quite refreshing.
This was the first week I've actually watched. Um, I was a tad...disturbed ......by the Barney 'alumni'.
And I have to say---I LOVE Neil Patrick Harris!! I wish they would have had him the entire hour.

I thought she sang the Barney theme way better than her audition song. Much less vocal pretension.
Her outfit was certainly interesting. Did you see the promo for next week's Denver tryout? Looks like they'll be getting their first naked auditioner. Take that, Bikini Girl!
