The premiere was tonight. What did everyone think of the new judges? I like them. J-Lo seems very sweet, Randy's still the dawg, and Steven Tyler looks like somebody's aunt. American Idol - Season 10 440956

ROTFL
Seeing all those delusional people, truly beLIEving that they can sing makes a great start to every AI season. The true talent shines through and I'm looking forward to this season.
Simon, I barely miss you, I've got a new aunt.
J-Lo, ehh, Paula2.0. I didn't know she was a singer. I always thought she was an average actress.
Question; have you (anyone) ever been impressed enough to buy an American Idol contestants CD?

Heh-heh... can't spell "believing" without "lie." Very true in the case of delusional singers.

Good to see you back here, Joe! Don't be a stranger.

I usually like at least one singer from each Idol season, but have never actually bought one of their records. Well... maybe "appreciate" is a better word than "like."

American Idol - Season 10 440956 I remember a music critic saying that Steven Tyler onstage looks like someone's aunt who's had a few too many martinis at the bridge party, and starts dancing on the tabletops.

I bought one of Kelly Clarkson's cd's many years ago, and then I bought David Cook's cd 2 years ago. It's a great cd! He is my favorite idol. I just love his "type" of music. He has that "edge" to his voice. I also saw him in concert 2 years ago up here in Minneapolis when he was on tour. I think he has been working on his 2nd cd.

There are quite a few idols that I listened to but have never bought their albums. I know they are trying to revive AI. I'm thinking it's because people haven't faithfully watched for several seasons, people don't remember a lot of the winners and the music sales for the winners haven't been very good.

I do love the music of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and, although they didn't win, songs by David A. & Chris Daughtry.

I did tune in a little last night. David asked who Tyler was & I pulled up the Aerosmith video, "Janie's Got a Gun." Didn't care for JLo...her reluctance to tell anyone "no" got on my nerves!

Oh, anyone else distracted by her sparkly eye makeup?

I did like that young girl (16 I think she said) at the end. She reminded me of Kelly Pickler, though not as "clueless."

How hilarious was that, the clips of those trying to sing Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA?"

Misti, I was wondering about that Party in the USA song, I had never heard it before. Thanks for clearing that up!
I wonder whatever happened to that "Pants on the Ground" guy from last year. He was an American Idol for like 3 days.

I didn't notice the sparkles. American Idol - Season 10 988160 I kind of liked JLo. I thought her sweetness and reluctance to hurt anyone's feelings was quite endearing.

What did everyone think of the first show of the post-Simon era? Personally, I liked it a lot. I don't mean to alienate any Simon fans, but I thought there was a freshness about the show in a "Ding-dong, the witch is dead!" sort of way. American Idol - Season 10 68167 There was just no longer that oppressive feeling that they were waiting for the contestants to mess up so that Simon could say snarky things.

I missed Idol last night....I'll have to catch it next week! Not sure if I'm going to get into it with these new judges, but I'll give it a chance at least.

Silent Partner, in answer to your question I have bought Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, David Archuletta and Carrie Underwood. Like Teresa, David Cook is my favorite Idol and I still listen to his CD all the time...it never gets 'old' to me. And his concert was probably the best I've ever been to...he really knows how to put on a show. Teresa, I HOPE he's working on a new CD!!! WHAT is the hold up?!

The only other "Idol" I want (not really an idol, but contestant) is Jason Castro....can't believe I haven't bought his CD yet. But I WILL be getting it.

You're welcome! Thumbsup Yeah, I think it was last year she sang it & it was popular for awhile. Funny thing is she made mention (in the song) of a JayZ song coming on the radio that she liked. In an interview she admitted she had never heard either of any JayZ songs or JayZ himself. I don't care for her much.
I imagine the man that sang "Pants on the Ground" is probably wherever the guy (sorry his name escapes me!) that sang, "She Bangs," though that guy had a little more than his 15 minutes of fame!
No one noticed Jenn's sparkly gray (I think ) eye makeup? Yikes

Wanted to let you know I watched the show one night and, wouldn't you know, there was a young guy in his 20's performing and his name is John Wayne Schultz. Anyone remember him? He is going to Hollywood! Well come to find out he is from Karnes City, Texas, 30 miles down the road from us! I've been there many times! So I'm rooting for him!!!

I watched last night for the first time....not sure if I'll continue, but it's hard to say. These 'preliminaries' are never my favorite. Yikes And, I had a tough time with Steven and JLo...they both seemed a little too 'taken' with people that I felt were just 'average', nothing to crazy over, you know? I've always liked how critical Simon and Kara are, and even Paula could be. So, I guess I'll have to wait for the top 24 and see if this still appeals to me, with the two new judges.

I'm not, but after hearing Kelly Ripa talking about how great it is, and how Steven Tyler has 'saved' the show, I might just give it a try. She said she loves it more than ever. I generally wait until the top 24 before really getting into it anyway, so I may start next week now.

I am. American Idol - Season 10 205803

I'm enjoying it more than I have in past years. I really like the new judging panel. Steven can be very funny; more so in the open auditions, because he seems to be taking Hollywood week quite seriously. Jennifer is very sweet and likeable... and pretty as a prayer book, to borrow a Paul Simon lyric. American Idol - Season 10 771460 Randy's just Randy. American Idol - Season 10 811339

It just seems like a kinder, gentler Idol to me. When Simon was there, it sometimes seemed like he was just waiting for someone to mess up so he could nail them to the wall. He could be really cruel, under the "I'm just being honest" guise. I don't miss that at all.

I also like that they're back to three judges. Don't know why they ever tinkered with that formula in the first place.

Next week it's Beatles songs, so of course I'm on American Idol - Season 10 775938 .

From what I'm hearing, Steven (and Jennifer) can really deliver the honesty, but have a tad more 'tact' than Simon when delivering it. Yikes

I caught the last couple of minutes of Idol last night, and I was rolling my eyes. Jennifer needs to take it down a notch. The judges chose not to have Chris Medina go through to the top 24. Jennifer was an emotional wreck after he left, and then the previews show her not wanting to continue and blah, blah, blah.............Come on! How staged is that? I honestly thought Chris was good enough to move on to the top 24. I only saw his first audition, but I loved the way he sang that song by The Script. I never saw his Hollywood performances, but you mean to tell me that he wasn't better than even ONE of the contestants that made the top 24? They were ALL better than him? I think he should have gone through, and it could have eliminated the drama of J-Lo. The previews just looked so ridiculous. I felt so bad for Chris and the tragedy that happened with his fiance. I don't think he should have gotten the sympathy vote, but he was good enough to make the top 24. Probably even the top 12. I'll have to listen to the top 24 next week and see how they compare.

What do you guys think?
